It’s time for your Thursday morning daily devotional. When God promises you something, it will come to pass. Just wait on the Lord and be encouraged. Some lose patience and begin to doubt. Then their faith falters. In today’s daily devotional, never lose faith that God will accomplish just what He said He would.
March Around Jericho
The gates of Jericho were shut tightly because its citizens were nervous. Among the Canaanite territories, Israel had struck fear. The people of Jericho withdrew inside its walls with their soldiers posted. Yet the Lord told Joshua, “I have given unto thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.” God gave Joshua specific instructions to march around the city once each day for six days.
Armed soldiers were to march ahead of seven priests blowing their trumpets. Then, other priests were to carry the ark, and the rear guard was to follow. On the seventh day, they were to circle Jericho seven times. In your daily devotional, when God gives directions, you must follow them for ultimate success.
Blow the Trumpets
For six days, Israel did this and returned to the camp. It probably looked strange to the people of Jericho. They had never seen a war strategy like this and were wondering how it would play out. The Israelites did the same thing for six days. Then on the seventh day, Joshua, the priests, and the army arose at dawn. This day would be different. They would walk around the city seven times instead of one.
On the seventh time, the priests would blow the trumpets, and Joshua would command the people: “Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.” And the city wall would fall down flat. In this daily devotional, praise God for preparing your way and destroying the walls that stand against you.
A Dramatic Rescue

After the walls came down, Israel’s army entered the city. They rescued Rahab and her household because she hid the spies that came to her. The city was cursed by God, and everything in it was destroyed. Only the silver and gold, and bronze and iron vessels were to be kept and put into the Lord’s treasury. After the army destroyed Jericho, they burnt it down.
Rahab’s life changed; she and her family then dwelt in Israel. She married Salmon and became the mother of Boaz, and the great-great-grandmother of David. Therefore, she was part of Christ’s lineage. In your daily devotional, no matter your background, God can change your life and give you a brand new start.
Safe From Harm
By God’s command, Joshua issued a curse to anyone who rebuilt Jericho: when he lays the foundation, his firstborn will die, and when he erects the gates, his youngest will die also. Verse 27 declares, “The Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.” Joshua was the most feared man in the land, as nations heard of the miraculous things God did for his people.
They conquered the Canaanite territories God gave them to possess. In this daily devotional, God will go before you and give you victory. Rahab’s story shows what God can do when you put your faith in Him. He will keep you safe from harm when you obey his commands.
You Must Never Lose Faith in God
In Thursday’s daily devotional, God’s instructions gave Joshua and the Israelite army success in the taking of Jericho. Walking around the city once for six days and then seven times on the seventh day brought Israel victory over Jericho’s valiant army and king. In today’s daily devotional, never lose faith in what God says He will accomplish.
