It’s time for your Tuesday morning daily devotional. Joshua 2 tells a story that you can identify with. You were once lost in your sins and needed a Savior to rescue you. Sometimes God sets events in motion to lead you straight to Him. In today’s daily devotional, you were bound in sin, but today you’re free; you were once blind, but now you see.

Only Hope of Salvation

In verse 1, Joshua sends spies to Jericho to examine the land and report their findings. It’s time for them to cross over into the promised land, and Jericho is the first city to conquer. These spies breach the land and enter Rahab’s house. She’s a harlot who lives on the city wall.

However, the spies are spotted going into her house, and the king sends soldiers to capture them. They question Rahab, but she tells them the spies left, though she was hiding them. Rahab knows the true God is with the Israelites. In your daily devotion, you came to Christ when you realized He was the only hope of salvation.

Their Hearts Melted

Rahab has hidden the spies under flax on her roof, and she tells them, “I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.” She confesses that the citizens of Jericho are fearful because they’ve heard how God dried the Red Sea and destroyed two powerful kings.

She declares that as soon as they heard these reports, their hearts melted; they knew that God is Lord Almighty. In this daily devotional, God’s power is recognized among heathens who worship false gods, for He is the one true and living God.

Trust Your Enemies’ Defeat

Then Rahab requires a pledge: “Swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token.” She requests protection for herself and her entire family when the Hebrews take the land. There’s no enemy that can withstand God, so Rahab knew Jericho would fall to Israel. In this daily devotional, you can also trust that your enemies will be defeated in Jesus’ name.

Saved by the Blood

In verse 14, the spies assure Rahab: “And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.” There’s no doubt, only certainty, that God will give Israel the land. Verse 15 says, “Then she let them down by a cord through the window.” Before their escape, they instruct her to bring her whole family into her house to be rescued when they return, and the same cord must be in the window.

The cord is red, which represents the blood of Jesus spread upon the doorposts of the Hebrews in Egypt, allowing the death angel to pass over them. In your daily devotional, you’re set free by the blood of Jesus. There is no other way.

God Has Given You Territory

In Tuesday’s daily devotional, the spies return safely to camp to tell Joshua what happened in Jericho. In verse 24, they deliver a positive report: “Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.” From Rahab’s testimony, they know the city is theirs for the taking because the people fear God. In today’s daily devotional, God has given you spiritual territory to take possession of. See it. Believe it. Take it!
