Happy Monday! It’s time for your daily devotional. Joshua 1 starts with the death of Moses. It was a transitional time, saying goodbye to a leader who led Israel throughout forty years in the wilderness. Moses would be tough to follow, but God ordained Joshua to be the next leader of Israel. In today’s daily devotional, when God calls you, He equips you with everything you need to succeed.
Strong and Courageous
After Moses’ departure, the Lord didn’t skip a beat, telling Joshua to “arise, go over this Jordan.” God’s plan was still in effect: Joshua will lead His people into the promised land. God promises that every place his foot treads upon is given to the children of Israel. In verse 5, God says, “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee.” Joshua was under divine protection.
God promises to be with Joshua as He was with Moses. Then He gives Joshua a charge: “Only be thou strong and very courageous.” In your daily devotional, stop mourning the past; God wants you to move forward today in the plan He has for your life.
Good Success
God tells Joshua to “observe to do according to all my law.” Obedience is key in your relationship with God, for He promises, “then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua’s obedience to God guarantees His success.
God commands Joshua three times to be strong. In Ephesians 6:10, Paul tells believers to be “strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” Being strong in the Lord means you rely on His strength, not your own. You look to God in all things and trust His direction. In this daily devotional, your obedience to God qualifies you to receive promises ordained from the foundation of the world.
God is With You

God’s instructions include, “Be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee.” When Joshua receives his marching orders, he acts immediately. He doesn’t call a prayer meeting or fast. He doesn’t question God or ask for a sign. He does what God instructs Him to do. As the new leader of Israel, Joshua gives his first command to his officers: “Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land.”
Then he commands the tribes who now occupy their land to fight for their brethren to possess their land on the opposite side of the Jordan. In verse 16, they answer Joshua: “All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.” Say this out loud in your daily devotional: “I will obey God’s Word!”
Being Obedient
In Numbers 27:18-23, God instructs Moses to anoint Joshua as the next leader by bringing him before Eleazar the high priest, who confirms Joshua’s call before all the people. Then Moses lays hands on Joshua and charges him before the Lord. In your daily devotional, 2 Peter 1:10 admonishes you to “give diligence to make your calling and election sure” by being obedient to the Master.
You Must Be Strong and Courageous
In Monday’s daily devotional, the children of Israel promise to honor Joshua’s leadership as they did Moses ‘, and whoever disobeys his words will be put to death. Then they encourage Joshua with God’s words: “Only be strong and of a good courage.” In today’s daily devotional. Be strong and courageous; God has ordained your success.
