It’s time for your Wednesday morning daily devotional. The enemy is a diabolical but fearful creature. He fears God’s people because he knows they have power over Him. When you walk in your authority, Satan knows he can’t touch you. In today’s daily devotional, Satan wants you to believe he’s a real threat, but no weapon formed against you will prosper.

Parting the Waters

Joshua prepares the Israelites to cross the Jordan River. The priests and Levites walk first, bearing the ark of the covenant. When they step into the Jordan, something miraculous happens. Joshua 3:15 says, “The waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap.” The river parted like the Red Sea, forty years earlier. The people then walked across on dry ground. In your daily devotional, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He did it back then, He can do it again.

Celebrate God’s Acts

God told Joshua, “This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel.” God shows that He is with Joshua as He was with Moses. As the people pass over, each tribe takes a stone from the Jordan. The priests stand in the Jordan with the ark until everyone has crossed over. Then the people built a memorial so that their children would know the Lord performed this great miracle. In this daily devotional, remember and celebrate God’s mighty acts in your life.

God’s Great Protection

The people honored Joshua as they did Moses. When the Canaanite kings heard that Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground, “their hearts melted, neither was there any more spirit in them any more.” The enemy knows that God is all-powerful and that even seas and rivers obey Him.  In your daily devotional, God will confound your enemies. They’ll see God’s great protection over you but be powerless to stop it.

A Mighty People

God instructs Joshua to circumcise those born in the wilderness, and he does. He obeys the Lord in all points, and the Lord tells Joshua, “This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” God renewed His covenant relationship with Israel and removed all the shame associated with their past.

They will no longer be considered slaves who escaped their masters in Egypt, but they are a mighty people who serve the Living God. The next day Joshua observes the Passover, which celebrates deliverance from Egypt. In this daily devotional, how do you celebrate the Lord’s victories in your life?

Holy Ground

When Joshua nears Jericho, he sees a man with a drawn sword standing near the city. Joshua approaches him: “Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?” The man answers that he’s for neither and identifies Himself as the captain of the Lord’s host. Joshua immediately falls on his face in worship: “What saith my lord unto his servant?” Joshua recognizes this is God, who then tells Joshua to take off his shoes, for the ground is holy. In your daily devotional, when you’re in God’s presence, you’re on holy ground.

You’re to Worship God Alone

In Wednesday’s daily devotional, only God is worthy of worship, and you were created to worship Him. In Revelation, John tries to worship angels but is rebuked and told to worship God alone. Therefore, God confirms to Joshua that He is with him and Israel’s army. This is an appearance of Jesus, of whom Joshua is a type, before His incarnation. In today’s daily devotional, when God fights for you, enemy forces can’t succeed.
