Honda has confirmed that a hotter version of the Civic Type R, badged HRC, is in development for American buyers. The Civic Type R HRC Concept is making its North American debut this week at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, which runs through Nov. 6, Honda said in an Oct. 30 news release.
HRC stands for Honda Racing Corporation, the automaker’s global racing arm, and the news follows months of hints. The concept first appeared at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January, a development video followed and a reveal window floated by an executive has since passed, Road & Track reported.
What Honda Actually Said
Honda’s commitment fits in a single line: The model is “in development for the U.S. market.” The release says the concept is being developed with HRC technologies and the expertise of its racing drivers, but it doesn’t say Honda will sell the car here.
Road & Track said that wording isn’t quite a promise to build it, while calling a market-specific statement of intent the “clear final step” before a production announcement. Until Honda takes that step, buyers are left reading the tea leaves.
What The Concept Shows
Honda hasn’t spelled out how an HRC model differs from the standard Type R, and its latest images still show the car in camouflage. What shows through is a reshaped front bumper, a different rear wing and what appear to be winglets over the front wheel arches.
Carscoops and Motor1 both read those changes as a push for more downforce. Honda hasn’t confirmed what they do, or whether any of them will reach a production car.
What Honda Hasn’t Said
Fans hoping for a direct answer on power, weight or handling will have to wait. The current U.S. Type R makes 315 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with a six-speed manual, and Honda hasn’t said whether the HRC version changes any of that. Suspension, interior updates, pricing, model year, production volume and an on-sale date also remain unannounced.
That leaves U.S. shoppers without much to plan around. The car’s development is official, but when it arrives, or whether it reaches dealerships at all, is not.
What’s Coming First
The firmest date attached to the HRC name in the U.S. belongs to parts, not the car. HRC US is launching its first line of HRC Performance Parts at SEMA, starting with lightweight forged wheels, exhaust systems and a short-throw shifter for models including the Civic Type R, Integra Type S and Passport TrailSport.
Those parts go on sale in March 2027 through Honda and Acura dealerships and the Honda DreamShop, according to the release. HRC is also showing prototypes of future parts at SEMA, including adjustable coilovers with camber plates and a Brembo brake kit with six-piston calipers.
