HBO Max

Casey Bloys has signed a new multiyear deal to keep overseeing HBO Max and Paramount+, locking in his leadership at Skydance. The deal secures Bloys as the top content executive across both streaming services at a pivotal moment for the combined company.

Bloys was named co-chair and chief content officer for Skydance DTC, the direct-to-consumer division that now spans HBO Max and Paramount+, according to Variety. In that job, he will oversee original programming on both platforms along with strategy, operations, communications and performance across the streaming business. His deal comes as Cindy Holland, who chaired Paramount’s direct-to-consumer business, exits ahead of the merger.

Why Casey Bloys Signed His New Deal

Bloys’ previous contract with HBO was set to expire next year, according to Variety. Insiders told the outlet that the new deal reflects Bloys wanting to show his commitment to the new structure he is about to run at Skydance, and the company wanting to show the same commitment to him.

That mutual buy-in matters for fans of shows on both services. Bloys built his reputation running HBO’s programming slate, and keeping him in place signals continuity for HBO Max originals even as Paramount+ gets folded into the same leadership structure.

What It Means For HBO Max And Paramount+

With Bloys now overseeing both platforms, the combined streaming business gets a single executive steering content decisions, strategy and day-to-day operations instead of separate leadership teams. For subscribers, that points toward more coordinated decisions about what gets greenlit, renewed or folded into the service’s programming strategy going forward.

The move also comes right after a leadership exit on the Paramount side. Cindy Holland, who chaired Paramount’s direct-to-consumer business, told colleagues she was leaving, effective immediately, according to Deadline. In a statement to staff, Holland wrote that David Ellison was “optimizing for HBO stability” and that she fully supported his decision to elevate Bloys.

Deadline had identified Bloys as the likely streaming chief of the combined Paramount-WBD operation before his new title was confirmed.

Bloys’ Track Record At HBO

Bloys joined HBO in 2004 and rose through the ranks, becoming executive vice president of HBO programming before being promoted to president of HBO programming in 2016. He later took on oversight of HBO Max as well, before serving as CEO and chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max. That two-decade run inside the network gives him a long history shaping HBO’s programming before taking on the larger combined role.

What’s Next

Bloys now begins his Skydance DTC role with a secured runway to shape programming strategy across both platforms as the merged company settles into its new structure.
