Big Brother renewed for two more seasons, CBS announced during the season 28 finale on Thursday, Oct. 1. Host Julie Chen Moonves revealed that seasons 29 and 30 are coming, according to Deadline.

Big Brother renewed after a record summer

The renewal follows a season that ended with Rick Devens winning the $750,000 grand prize over runner-up Taylor Brown in a 6-1 jury vote, according to TVLine.

The show aired its 1,000th episode on Aug. 27, a 90-minute live broadcast. Guinness World Records recognized it for the most episodes of a primetime TV show and the most episodes of a competitive reality TV show, according to a CBS release.

CBS also reported that season 28 drew 14.8 billion minutes of viewing, up 9% from last summer. It averaged 5.1 million viewers in seven-day multiplatform measurement, up 8%. The network called it the most social program of the summer with sports excluded.

What’s next for the series

With Big Brother renewed, premiere dates for seasons 29 and 30 have not been announced. Big Brother has aired in the summer in recent years, including season 27. CBS also keeps other reality franchises moving, such as the Undercover Boss reboot. For another renewal story, see the Neagley renewal.
