Zach Bryan Free Palestine Shirt: Bold Move on Oct. 2

The Zach Bryan Free Palestine shirt at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 2 landed weeks after Macklemore was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour. Here is the context.

The Zach Bryan Free Palestine shirt became the talking point of his Friday, Oct. 2, concert at Robert Kraft’s Gillette Stadium. Bryan wore the black shirt weeks after Macklemore was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour over similar remarks, and many read it as support for the rapper. Bryan’s band members also wore shirts backing the cause, according to TheWrap. The shirt drew an immediate reaction online.

The Zach Bryan Free Palestine Shirt and the Macklemore Controversy

The setting made the shirt stand out. Kraft, who owns the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, was at the center of the dispute over Macklemore. A report from TV station Turn to 10 said Bryan’s shirt also carried a pine-tree image and the phrase “An Appeal to Heaven.”

Macklemore performed at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey during Sheeran’s Loop Tour in early September and said “Free Palestine” to the crowd. After the shows, multiple venues told tour promoter Messina Touring Group they would pull their dates if he stayed on the bill, and he was removed. Sheeran said that decision belonged to the promoter, not him, and that he spent the week trying to “build a bridge” with venues, per ABC News.

Sheeran also explained why he rarely speaks on politics from the stage, saying his audience includes young people of all backgrounds who do not expect a political forum. He added that he respects Macklemore’s strength of purpose and that there is room for different approaches to the same goal of peace. That backdrop is why the Zach Bryan Free Palestine shirt at Gillette drew so much attention.

What Kraft and Macklemore Said

Kraft, whose stadium hosted the Zach Bryan Free Palestine shirt moment, said Macklemore’s participation would “cross that line,” citing concerns about antisemitic rhetoric and imagery while acknowledging the suffering of Palestinians, according to Fox News. The Australian outlet The Nightly reported that Kraft committed $2 million to humanitarian aid in the region.

Macklemore, for his part, pledged to donate $1 million of his net earnings from the Loop Tour to six organizations supporting Palestinians, The Nightly reported. On Sept. 24, he announced his own “Free Palestine” concerts with proceeds going to Palestinian aid groups, according to Local10. Four other acts, Aaron Rowe, Beoga, Lukas Graham and Finneas, later left the Sheeran tour in solidarity with Macklemore, The Nightly reported.

Zach Bryan’s History of Political Friction

Bryan has run into political backlash before, well ahead of the Zach Bryan Free Palestine shirt episode. In October 2025, a teaser for his song “Bad News,” which touches on immigration enforcement, drew criticism from the Department of Homeland Security and the White House. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said she was “extremely disappointed.” Bryan responded that the full song would offer context “on both sides of the aisle.” The track appears on his album “With Heaven on Top,” released Jan. 9, 2026.

What Happens Next for the Zach Bryan Free Palestine Shirt Debate

Bryan was scheduled to play a second night at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 3. Fox News said it reached out to both Kraft and Bryan for comment. Reaction to the Zach Bryan Free Palestine shirt has been split, with some supporters calling the shirt courageous and critics arguing that fans do not buy concert tickets for political statements.
