Tilda Swinton Memoir: A Life Told Through Objects
Instead of a chronological life story, the book uses objects as doorways into Swinton’s past. They include a christening dress, a letter, a wooden leg, a sweatshirt, embroidery silk and a photograph. British publisher Canongate says those items open threads from family history and Scottish identity to performance art and grief.
Swinton called the book “a trail of breadcrumbs through the forest.” FSG president Mitzi Angel said the objects “vibrate with meaning and memory,” and called the book “full of humor, insight and appreciation for detail that might otherwise go unnoticed.”
Publishers and Release Plans
Canongate will publish the book in the United Kingdom and holds world rights, according to its announcement. The publisher also lists deals for Germany, the Netherlands and France. No exact release date or price has been announced.
A Second Book for Swinton
“Material Evidence” follows “Tilda Swinton: Ongoing,” an art book published in September 2025 by Rizzoli, according to Dork. Swinton won an Oscar and a BAFTA for “Michael Clayton” and played the White Witch in “The Chronicles of Narnia” films.
