Netflix has begun production on “The Gentlemen” season 3, and the show is adding Robert Carlyle, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom to its cast, according to Deadline and Variety. Filming is underway in the U.K. and Morocco, with Theo James returning to lead a cast that mixes familiar faces with new arrivals.
Dexter Fletcher, Bruna Marquezine, Ed Speleers, Saffron Burrows and Bugzy Malone are also joining the production, Deadline reported, bringing the number of newcomers to eight. The additions come as creator Guy Ritchie expands the scope of the crime drama for its third run on the streamer.
Who’s joining ‘The Gentlemen’
Carlyle, Wood and Bloom are working with Ritchie for the first time, Variety reported. For Wood and Bloom, it’s also a reunion. The pair played Frodo and Legolas in “The Lord of the Rings” films. Fletcher and Malone, meanwhile, already know their way around a Ritchie set. Fletcher starred in “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” and Malone appeared in “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.”
Specific character names and roles for the new cast members have not been disclosed. James returns as Eddie Horniman and is also credited as an executive producer on season 3 alongside Ritchie and other producers, What’s on Netflix reported.
Kaya Scodelario is back as Susie Glass, along with returning cast members Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins and Benjamin Clementine. Maya Jama, who debuted in season 2 as the well-connected fixer Aisha, is also returning.
Who’s out
Two notable names will not be back. Daniel Ings, who played Eddie’s older brother, Freddy Horniman, confirmed his exit in an interview with HATC Magazine. Freddy’s last moments in the season 2 finale were his darkest yet. Eddie forced him to kill Gospel John, and Freddy ended the season by decapitating him.
“I’m not in the next one. So that’s a fun sense of closure,” Ings said. “I kind of see it as closure for the character in a way; it just ends as this wild, broken, crazy, you know. I don’t know, probably mumbling into the ether somewhere in the British countryside.”
Giancarlo Esposito, who played American billionaire Stanley Johnston, also isn’t listed among the returning cast. Stanley’s season 2 run ended with his arrest. Netflix hasn’t said how season 3 will handle either character’s absence.
Inside season 3’s production
Netflix renewed “The Gentlemen” for a third season in August 2026, days before season 2 premiered, according to Variety. Ritchie returns as creator. He wrote the season with Matthew Read and is directing alongside Eran Creevy. Moonage Pictures produces the series for Netflix and Miramax TV.
Season 3 will run eight episodes at 60 minutes each. Plot details released so far come from Netflix’s official logline: Eddie and Susie take on their most audacious project yet, building a casino in the Middle East.
When the renewal was announced in August, Ritchie said in a statement: “The ambition of ‘The Gentlemen’ has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
Cameras were rolling well before Netflix’s Oct. 23 announcement. According to What’s on Netflix, production began Sept. 13 in Rabat, Morocco, with the desert town of Erfoud also used for scenes set in the Middle East. The shoot moved to the U.K. in early October. James and Scodelario were spotted in Poole, Dorset, during the second week of the month. The production also shot at West Wycombe Park in Buckinghamshire, and the cast was photographed filming in Kilburn, London, on Oct. 19.
How season 2 performed
Season 2 premiered on Netflix on Sept. 3. It opened at No. 3 on the streamer’s global English TV chart with 6.7 million views, What’s on Netflix reported. The next week it rose to No. 1, and it spent two straight weeks at the top of Netflix’s U.K. chart.
No release date or window has been set for season 3. Plot information beyond the Middle East casino storyline has not been released, and character names for the new additions have not been confirmed. Production continues in the U.K. and Morocco, with further details expected as filming progresses.
