The Diplomat season 4 UK release arrived on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, with all eight episodes streaming at once starting at 8 a.m. BST, according to What’s on Netflix. The drop matches the show’s global rollout, giving UK subscribers the same day-one access as viewers everywhere else.
The new season continues the story of Kate Wyler, the American Ambassador to the United Kingdom, as she juggles international conflict with her marriage to Hal, who has been promoted to vice president, according to IGN. The full-season drop keeps The Diplomat in line with its prior pattern of binge-ready releases rather than weekly episodes.
The Diplomat Season 4 UK Release Date And Episode Count
Netflix made all eight episodes of season 4 available simultaneously in the UK and worldwide on Oct. 15, per What’s on Netflix. The outlet confirmed the 8 a.m. BST start time, meaning UK viewers could begin streaming the full season before the workday started.
The series has kept to an annual cadence since its debut. Season 2 arrived in October 2024 and season 3 followed in October 2025, according to What’s on Netflix, putting season 4 on the same yearly track.
What Happens Early In Season 4
An assassination attempt targets President Grace Penn in the premiere episode, according to IGN. Early episodes also bring a major cast shake-up: Austin Dennison, played by David Gyasi, dies in a helicopter crash in Amritsar, India, an incident that also involves the Indian Prime Minister, Deadline reported.
The political landscape in the show shifts further when British Prime Minister Trowbridge resigns in episode four, after Kate reveals he had attempted to kill a previous character, according to Deadline. Bethan Vaughan, played by Jodie Whittaker, steps in as the second Prime Minister to appear during the show’s run, having defeated a candidate Deadline described as antisemitic and xenophobic.
Viewership History And Awards Recognition
The Diplomat has drawn 783.8 million hours viewed globally between 2023 and mid-2026, translating to roughly 126.4 million views, according to What’s on Netflix. Season 3’s opening week came in 14% below season 2 and 43% below the original season, the outlet reported, a decline that frames the stakes for how season 4 performs out of the gate.
The show picked up its first Emmy at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, where Allison Janney won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for playing President Grace Penn, according to What’s on Netflix.
Season 5 Status Remains Unconfirmed
Netflix greenlit season 4 in May 2025 as part of its annual Upfront announcements, What’s on Netflix reported. The streamer has not announced whether The Diplomat will return for a fifth season, and the outlet noted that season 4’s viewership and any awards success are likely to factor into that decision.
Any talk of a season 5 renewal remains speculation at this point since Netflix has made no official statement either way. Viewers looking for more on the season’s political turns can check Deadline’s breakdown of the premiere’s biggest deaths and power shifts, while IGN has posted a review of the new episodes.
