Lionsgate and MCA revealed the full tracklist for the “Sunrise on the Reaping” soundtrack on Monday, Nov. 2, a 29-song album tied to “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.” The record arrives Nov. 13 on MCA, one week before the film opens in theaters Nov. 20, according to Billboard.
Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb serves as executive producer on the project, which pulls together artists from rock, country, Americana and pop.
Songs And Artists On The Sunrise On The Reaping Soundtrack
The tracklist spans genres and generations. Confirmed contributions include Ella Langley’s “Here Then We’re Gone,” Stevie Nicks’ “Doing the Best That I Can (Arena Mix)” and Tyler Childers’ “Old Money.” The Smashing Pumpkins appear with “Black Stars,” while Noah Kahan contributes “Draw You Out” and Stephen Wilson Jr. delivers “First in Line.”
Several familiar Hunger Games faces also turn up on the album. Jennifer Lawrence, who returns as Katniss Everdeen in the new film, sings a new version of “Deep in the Meadow,” the lullaby fans know from the original series, according to Variety. Mckenna Grace, who plays Maysilee Donner, offers “Half Alive.”
Whitney Peak, who plays Lenore Dove, has the biggest presence of any artist. She opens the album with “The Raven I,” returns for “The Raven II” and “The Raven III,” and also performs “The Goose and the Common.”
Kacey Musgraves adds “Ruthless (Arena Mix),” and two veteran acts bring reworked material: The Cure with “Alone (Live in Berlin 2022)” and Depeche Mode teaming with KÁRYYN on “Survive (Arena Mix | KÁRYYN Rework).”
Gigi Perez contributes “Favor,” according to Deadline, and Noah Cyrus offers “Ash and Snow,” a track Billboard tied directly to the film’s narrative. Other names on the list include Lizzy McAlpine with “The Wheel,” Madeline Edwards with “Wrestle With God” and Hudson Freeman with “But You Wanted More.”
What The Sunrise On The Reaping Soundtrack Means For Fans
Variety described the project as an inspired-by album, so not every track is guaranteed a spot in the film itself. Fans looking for the movie’s actual score will need a separate release: composer James Newton Howard’s score album drops alongside the film on Nov. 20.
Three songs reached fans before the full list came out. Kahan’s “Draw You Out,” The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Black Stars” and Perez’s “Favor” were all released in October ahead of the official announcement.
Cobb described the creative freedom behind the record in comments to Billboard. “We got to live the fantasy league of dream artists we wanted to work with. And the through line of all of it is honesty.
“I think people listen to music in such a varied way. So this is really all the things we love about great artists and great music,” Cobb said. He added that the record “has triumph, sadness, and it has loss and it has love,” reflecting the emotional range of the film.
