Harry Potter 2025 Series: Cillian Murphy Shuts Down Voldemort Casting Rumors
The saga of Harry Potter is one of the most renowned tales ever told. It first sprang to life from the novels written by J.K. Rowling. And it wasn’t long until Warner Bros retold it in theatrical films. Now, since the movies’ conclusion in 2011, the story is getting revived for a series.
There’s been much news surrounding this eventual program, especially regarding the cast. Word has it that Cillian Murphy could play the overarching antagonist. And recently, the acclaimed Oppenheimer actor stepped forward to address this rumor. What exactly did he say, and how will it affect the show?
HBO Brings Back Harry Potter
Harry Potter’s extraordinary tale begins on his eleventh birthday when he learns he’s a wizard. From there, he attends a secret school where young magic-users learn sorcery. He even realizes he is famous amongst the citizens living within the magical world. But Harry’s studies and social life are constantly disrupted by mysteries and life-threatening situations. He soon gets pulled into a war against the evil wizard, Lord Voldemort.
Most of us know this story from the Harry Potter books and/or movies. However, HBO has chosen to bring it back and rework it into a brand-new series. Sources reveal this show will be a more faithful adaptation than the films. And each season will recount a different novel from J.K. Rowling‘s famous collection.
Cillian Murphy Sets the Record Straight
Most news regarding HBO’s Harry Potter series pertains to who’s joining the cast. Many roles, such as the protagonist trio, Albus Dumbledore, and Severus Snape, have been filled. The show has even found its perfect Rubeus Hagrid in Nick Frost. One other part that has received an actor is Voldemort, the franchise’s iconic antagonist. But the performer’s identity will remain undisclosed until the program premieres.
Harry Potter fans have speculated that Cillian Murphy acquired the role of the evil sorcerer. However, Murphy recently addressed these rumors during a podcast interview. He revealed he’s not the actor behind the role and knows nothing about it. Murphy also mentioned he’d have a hard time following in Ralph Fiennes‘ footsteps. And he wishes much luck to whoever got the part.
Final Thoughts
Hearing that Cillian Murphy won’t be Voldemort in Harry Potter doesn’t really upset me. I’m not really familiar with the full range of his acting prowess. I’ve only seen him in one movie and haven’t seen another one since. Yet I have heard good things about him, and he has won numerous awards. There’s little doubt in my mind he would’ve made an ideal Lord Voldemort.
As for the actual Harry Potter show, I wouldn’t mind watching it if I could. I was a big fan of the Rowling novels and the movies based on them. I’m also interested in observing how faithful this series will be to the books. Sadly, all Wizarding World fans and I won’t be able to until, supposedly, 2027.
