With plenty of sequels and originals, this upcoming anime season has much to offer.
From fans looking for something to catch up on to more seasoned watchers, plenty will air within the next few months. I have watched all of these series, and despite a few lengthy shows, they are all I would recommend to catch up on for the new season for the most part. From Action Battle Shounen to Isekai, these two categories are the most popular genres of it by far.
Here are five sequels of current ongoing series that are airing for the Spring 2024 Anime season.
Anime with Previous Seasons on Netflix
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba and My Hero Academia are two big Shounen series that are getting new seasons in May. Their past seasons are on Netflix, along with six other Anime I recommend watching.
Demon Slayer is on its fourth season with the Hashira Training Arc. The Mugen Train Arc, or Infinity Train, a film following the first season’s success, boomed in theatres in 2021. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it was most likely the most popular anime to come out in 2019 with the Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc.
The difference between past these films is that Mugen Train was canon, meaning it followed right after the first season’s ending. Kimetsu No Yaiba tried to do a similar thing with seasons three and four, but it was more of a tease for the new season’s first few episodes. It wasn’t a contained storyline with the framework of a film.
Some Had Moments in Anime
That isn’t to say the Entertainment District Arc or the Swordsmith Village Arc didn’t have its moments. Both did, airing from 2022 into 2023 with a few months in between.
My Hero Academia is entering its seventh season, and even though I will watch it when it airs, it isn’t my cup of tea. I loved the start and a few seasons after, but it became too much for me to follow due to waning interest.
I know many people like it, so at the very least, I will recommend its first season. It began airing in 2016, so it is a long time coming for another season. This School Super Power series has plenty of non-canon movies to accompany it, so it isn’t lacking in content.
Anime Comedy Adventure Fantasy Dramas- Pretty Much Isekai
Season three for KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! will air in about a week. This series is a parody of the Isekai genre and has a unique sense of comedy, to put it lightly. It follows the events after the Legend of Crimson movie that came out in 2019, after the second season. I saw the film at my local AMC, and that was the only animated movie I’d watched in theatres besides the Demon Slayer movies at the time.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation returns for part two of its second season in a few days, which aired last year. It sort of parodies Isekai but in a different way and was one of the better works to air in 2021. It has a more mature tone, but the world-building and storytelling are among the best in the fantasy anime genre.
RECOMMENDATIONS: My Top Six Anime Recommendations on Netflix, Get excited! Hulu Adds Season Two of Beloved Anime, Dr. Stone, 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Sailor Moon
Spice and Wolf is getting a reboot this Spring, and its first episode was released over the weekend. It is a new adaptation, and it’s called “Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf.” It isn’t a sequel to the 16-year-old anime released in 2008. But it is good news even classics could get a new revival with a different but modern twist, bringing in new fans. It is more of a Drama Romance involving Adventure and Fantasy elements, talking about economics in a slice-in-life way.
There are also plenty of originals that are interesting for the Spring anime season. A series to look out for includes Kaijuu No. 8, which debuts on April 13. Wind Breaker, another new anime has already made some notice with its first episode that came out a week ago on April 5th. I will look out for these new anime adaptations, along with the sequels I am planning to watch.
There are plenty of options when looking for new anime recommendations or sequels to catch up on. The Summer and Winter anime seasons for this year could bring even more quality shows for 2024. However, the Spring 2024 season is packed with notable titles and new original adaptations.
