(SPOILERS AHEAD – Season One)
Dr. Stone Backstory
Our journey begins with a brilliant teenager, Senku Ishigami. Senku is working in a modern-day laboratory in Japan. At the same time, his best friend, Taiju Oki, finally finds the courage to tell the girl he loves, Yuzuriha Ogawa, about his true feelings. As Taiju is about to confess his love, a giant green flash covers the whole planet, turning everyone to stone.
After 3,700 years, Senku breaks free from his petrification. He spends the next six months making life manageable using his scientific wit, hoping Taiju will free himself from the stone one day. With a stroke of luck, Taiju breaks free and reunites with Senku. With Taiju’s strength and Senku’s scientific knowledge, they seek to revive humanity using science.
Driven by Senku’s vision, the duo tirelessly works to develop a revival fluid. After a year, they managed to create one, and they plan to revive Yuzuriha first. Their plans change when a lion attacks them, which forces Senku to use the fluid on Tsukasa Shishio, The Strongest High School Primate. Tsukasa saves the two from death and the three begin to form an unlikely alliance.
The Death Of Dr. Stone
Tsukasa’s clash with Senku’s ideals sets the stage for a battle of ideologies in the new world. As Senku, Taiju, and Yuzuriha strive to create an advanced civilization, Tsukasa’s desire to create a world rid of corrupt adults poses a threat. The tension escalates as Senku confronts Tsukasa’s murderous intentions, leading to a downhill relationship destined to fail.
With much tension building, Tsukasa takes Yuzuriha hostage and forces Senku to tell him the revival fluid recipe so that he can build a primal army. Seeing no other choice, Senku gives him the recipe, saving Yuzuriha’s life. In one final attempt to spare Senku’s life, Tsukasa offers him a chance to live. As long as Senku gives up science, he can live in this world. Unable to live without science, Senku accepts his fate and lets Tsukasa sever his spinal cord, effectively killing him.
Dr. Stone’s Party Breaks Apart
In a surprise twist, Taiju and Yuzuriha manage to revive Senku after realizing he still has a piece of stone left on his neck from the petrification that protected him from Tsukasa’s blow. The trio decides to separate and keep Senku’s life a secret. The plan is to send Senku to a primitive tribe to build a scientific village, while Taiju and Yuzuriha join Tsukasa’s army and spy on him.
Once Senku arrives at the village, he forms alliances with Kohaku, Chrome, and others, recognizing their potential to shape the new world. Together, they work tirelessly to unlock scientific equipment and build weapons to take down Tsukasa.
Senku and friends, now joined by Gen Asagiri, spend the next couple of months making antibiotics, ramen, lightbulbs, and an entire chemistry lab. The group also participates in a tournament in which the winner is named chief and is set to marry Kohaku’s sister, Ruri, the village priestess. As the tournament unfolds, Senku wins by default as Chrome is unable to continue fighting, leading to Senku becoming chief of the village.
The History Of Ishigami Village
Flashbacks reveal Ishigami village’s origins, tracing them to Senku’s father’s tale of survival in space and the legacy he left behind. As Senku unravels the mysteries of the past, he finds relief in Ruri’s 100 Tales, a gift of knowledge from Senku’s father.
With the help of Ruri, Senku finds a hidden message in the 100 Tales and a glass record hidden in his father’s gravestone. The group listens to the recording, using the stone-age cell phone, modified into a record player. Senku listens to his father’s message in the only heartfelt way they communicate, and they are all in awe when they hear a song for the first time sung by a famous singer from Senku’s time.
The season ends with tensions building as Tsukasa’s army and Senku’s scientific group work to conquer one another. Armed with new inventions and allies, Senku wages a war of science against Tsukasa and his forces, hoping to finally utilize Taiju and Yuzuriha.
