It’s time for your Thursday morning daily devotional. Faith is more than a biblical concept; it’s a way of life. It goes beyond the Sunday School classroom or a Sunday morning message. Faith affects your thoughts and the way you operate each day. In today’s daily devotional, the Hebrews 11 faith heroes were faithful in their day, and now it’s your turn.
Take a Stand in Faith
Verses 38-40 honor faith heroes for the suffering they willingly endured to align with God’s will. They knew the cost of their commitment, yet they were unfazed by the consequences. They were despised by the world but commended by God. The life of faith isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon, and believers must be fit to last. There’s a level of suffering you’ll face as a believer, as your faith opposes worldly beliefs.
Verse 38 considers the world unworthy of past heroes of faith who “wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.” These were faith’s elite; they were spiritual royalty. Yet the world prefers rebellion against God. Therefore, the faithful chose exile rather than partner with disobedience. In your daily devotional, be bold and take a stand in faith.
They Believed God’s Promises
Verse 39 makes a remarkable statement: “And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise.” The faith heroes weren’t in the race for a temporary prize or momentary pleasure. By faith, they believed God’s promises, knowing they wouldn’t be obtained in their lifetime. Abraham saw himself as the father of many nations, having descendants like the stars above and sand on the seashore.
His faith looked beyond this world and what he could see naturally to grasp the unseen. While childless, he believed that his seed would inherit the promises. In this daily devotional, follow the examples of those who trusted God for what was beyond them and left a legacy of faith for others.
God Promised Better Things
In honoring the men and women of Hebrews 11 as examples of the faith, you join with them in walking with God. They laid the foundation that you stand on, for verse 40 proclaims, “God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.” This emphasizes the family of faith that includes past, present, and future generations. Ephesians 3:15 speaks of “the whole family in heaven and earth,” which includes all believers.
God promised “better things,” which you’re walking in today. The blood of Jesus has redeemed you; you’re a new creation empowered by the Holy Spirit. You walk in spiritual authority because the enemy is under your feet. The faith heroes were servants because of the dispensation they were in, but now you’re a son, an heir of God. In your daily devotional, celebrate those who came before you while reaping the promises they were given.
Forever Connected by Faith
In Thursday’s daily devotional, God created a Master Plan with perfect timing. He ordained that the past believers’ faith would be united with ours and we would all be joined together as a completed whole. Your faith isn’t separate from theirs, but a continuation. You continue their faithfulness while enduring adversities because you also see beyond the natural. You have the promise of eternal life given to every believer by Christ.
