Daily Devotional Friday | March 27, 2026

Happy Friday! It’s time for your daily devotion. One of the most stirring utterances in the Bible is the Song of Mary, recorded in Luke 1:46-55. Chosen to be the mother of Jesus, Mary was called blessed among women by Elizabeth, who added, “Blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” In today’s daily devotion, magnify the Lord for giving you Jesus, the Savior of the world.

Mother of My Lord

When Mary arrives to visit her cousin, Elizabeth greets her as “the mother of my Lord,” saluting Mary as blessed for believing God’s words. Then Elizabeth proclaims prophetically that “there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” At this, Mary begins her song in verses 46-47: “My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.”

Mary shows the humility with which she has received this distinction. Expecting a child before a marriage was consummated was a legal matter punishable by death according to the law in Deuteronomy 22:21. In your daily devotion, know that what others may call an infraction can be God’s greatest blessing.

Chosen By God

Regardless of how society would look at this, Mary knew she’d heard from God, who sent His angel, Gabriel, to announce the joyful news. Mary received God’s assignment to be the mother of Jesus as a great blessing. In verse 48, she says, “For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.” Mary feels the enormity of her call, realizing that future generations will honor her.

God in His might has chosen a simple handmaiden whose family isn’t ranked among the wealthy or powerful, but among the lowly. In verse 49, Mary erupts in praise, “For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.” Mary extols the Lord for His goodness and His excellent greatness in selecting her. In this daily devotion, realize that God doesn’t require the wise, mighty, and noble, but He chooses weak things to confound the mighty.

From Generation to Generation

In verse 50, Mary continues her song of praise by extolling the Lord’s mercy from “generation to generation,” invoking Psalm 100:5, which says that God’s mercy is everlasting.  She praises God for the might He has shown His people throughout the ages. As a Jewish girl, Mary was familiar with the Torah, which historically traces her people, describing the battles God brought them through victoriously.

In verses 52-53, she exalts God’s strength in preserving His people. Of all the ancient peoples, the Amorites, Jebusites, Perizzites, and all the rest of the Canaanite divisions, only God’s people have been preserved. In today’s daily devotion, realize that your survival was through no goodness of your own, but it was by the mighty hand of God.

The Promise-Keeper

In verses 54-55, Mary acknowledges God’s consistency toward Israel. Though they haven’t always been faithful, God, in His grace and mercy, has remembered His covenant with Abraham in Genesis 12:2: “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.” In this daily devotion, declare that God is a promise-keeper.

Celebrate King Jesus

In Friday’s daily devotion, God would fulfill His promise through the child Mary carried. Thereby, Mary’s praise is filled with gratitude. Galatians 3:16  declares that God made His promise to Abraham, “And to thy seed, which is Christ.” In today’s daily devotion, praise God for Jesus, born of Mary, while lifting your voice in song.
