Daily Devotion for Tuesday Thoughts | March 31, 2026

In daily devotion, a Bible is open to Mark.

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotion. On the third day of Holy Week, Jesus does His last teaching in the temple. After His triumphal entry and cleansing of the temple, Jesus begins the day teaching His disciples about faith. In today’s daily devotion, determine to cling to the Master’s words, for He has the words of life.

No Counsel Against the Lord

The Pharisees want to destroy Jesus after hearing of His actions in the temple on Monday. Conspiring to accomplish this, they’re fearful, knowing Jesus has the people’s adulation. They saw His triumphal entry and heard the shouts of Hosanna. It won’t be easy to ensnare Him, but they seek a way. In your daily devotion, know that no counsel against the Lord will stand.

Have Faith in God

On Tuesday morning, Jesus and His disciples head back to Jerusalem after leaving Bethany. The disciples see that the fig tree Jesus cursed is withered. As they marvel, Jesus uses this moment to teach them to have faith in God. In verse 23, Jesus teaches them that faith-filled words have power and can move mountains.

In Mark 24, Jesus relates this power to prayer, saying, “What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” In verses 25-26, Jesus teaches them that prayer must be preceded by forgiveness. In this daily devotion, Jesus shows you the power of forgiveness. Without forgiveness, it’s impossible to receive in prayer.

Tension Mounts in the Temple

As Jesus enters the temple, the Pharisees begin questioning Him: “By what authority doest thou these things? And who gave thee this authority to do these things?” However, Jesus turns the tables by asking them if John’s baptism was from heaven or of men. They choose not to answer at all rather than risk the people’s revolt. Therefore, Jesus doesn’t answer them. Say this out loud in your daily devotion: “There is no wisdom or knowledge against the Lord.”

In Chapter 12:1-9, Jesus teaches with a parable about a husbandman who planted a vineyard and sent servants to tend it, but they were beaten, wounded, and killed one by one. Sending his son, the same evil doers kill him over greed for the inheritance. Jesus says the husbandman will destroy them and give the vineyard to others. In verse 10, He asks if they’d read the scripture that says the stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone. It’s the Lord’s doing and marvellous. The Pharisees know that the parable is meant against them.

Jesus Crushes His Opponents

Frustratingly, the Pharisees want the people to revere them as teachers, but see them clinging to Jesus’ words. As false teachers, the Pharisees desire the praises of men. They send Herodians, other opposers of Jesus, to catch Him in His very words. They ask Jesus whether it’s wrong to give to Caesar, but Jesus tells them that Caesar is owed what’s due him.

Then the Sadducees, who don’t believe in the resurrection, question Him about it, but He corrects them, showing their error in Scripture. Lastly, a scribe asks what the greatest commandment is. Jesus answers Him wisely and continues teaching with authority as the people gladly hear Him. In your daily devotion, Jesus’ words are life, and they are to be lived by, not opposed.

Jesus’ words are Life for You

In Tuesday’s daily devotion, Jesus began a series of woes against the Pharisees as hypocrites and taught about giving from the heart, among other parables and teachings. In today’s daily devotion, Jesus’s teachings on Holy Week prepare you for a new life.
