Daily Devotion Thoughtful Thursday | March 26, 2026
It’s time for Thursday’s daily devotion. Self-appointed enemies try to steal your joy. If they know something offends you, they delight in rubbing it in. Hannah was sorrowful that she couldn’t have children, and her enemy tormented her about it. In today’s daily devotion, when God blessed Hannah, she rejoiced in a song of praise.
Song of Hannah
1 Samuel 2:1-10 records the Song of Hannah, in which she praises God for answering her prayer. In verse 1, she extols God’s goodness: “My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.” Hannah is overjoyed with God’s favor. Her enemy has hurled insults, but Hannah has been vindicated. In your daily devotion, if you’ve ever felt silenced by shame, your voice can reverberate with praise.
None Like God
In Hannah’s song, she affirms that there is none like the God of Israel. God answers prayer, whereas idol gods cannot. In verse 3, she says, “Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth.” Her husband’s second wife, Peninah, spoke hurtful words, constantly reviling Hannah because, while she was having children, Hannah wasn’t. Now Hannah praises the “God of knowledge,” who sees wrongs inflicted on others. In this daily devotion, know that God can turn the tables on the wicked.
God Blessed Hannah

In verse 4, Hannah proclaims, “The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.” Those pompous today are humbled tomorrow. Proverbs 16:18 says that pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall. Pride is a sin God hates, and the proud will not be rewarded. Peninah, in her haughtiness, took pleasure in provoking Hannah. However, when God blessed Hannah, she began to reap what she had sown, as her wickedness came crashing down. In today’s daily devotion, those who exalt themselves are brought low, while those who humble themselves are exalted.
No Longer Proud
Verse 5 says, “They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.” When God turned the tide, Hannah’s enemy was no longer proud and full but had become weak and empty. She became feeble and could no longer bear, but Hannah went on to bear seven children, more than her tormentor. In today’s daily devotion, those who exalt themselves don’t win, but God is the strength of your life.
The Lowly Are Exalted
Hannah praises God’s greatness; He is the one who lifts the lowly. David was a shepherd boy, but God exalted him to be king. He took Esther, a simple peasant girl, and made her a queen. Ruth was an idolater from Moab who followed Naomi, embracing her God, and became the wife of a wealthy landowner. And Joseph, who was hated by his brothers and sold into slavery, became a ruler in Egypt. In your daily devotion, God is the Creator of Heaven and Earth, and His plans for you cannot be overturned.
Rejoice in a Song of Praise
In Thursday’s daily devotion, Hannah praises God for His deliverance, while the wicked are silent and have come to the end of their own strength. In verse 10, Hannah ends her song by proclaiming God’s enemies will be defeated, as He rules the earth and exalts those whom He chooses. In today’s daily devotion, like Hannah, rejoice in a song of praise to your Almighty God.
