Daily Devotion Wednesday Wisdom | March 25, 2026
It’s midweek, and time for Wednesday’s daily devotion. Throughout the Bible, people have sung praises, danced, and played timbrels before the Lord. Praising the Lord should be a continual offering. Psalm 149 combines joyful praise with spiritual warfare. Singing a song while combating darkness shows the role praise has in resisting evil. In today’s daily devotion, your praise wages war against the enemy.
Sing a New Song
Verse 1 says, “Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.” Congregations are to sing together in praise. Psalm 22:3 declares that God inhabits the praises of His people. David established an order of praise by instituting it in the tabernacle, with singers, musicians, and instruments. In your daily devotion, God’s house is not a house of sadness, but a house of rejoicing in Him.
Praise Him Together

Verse 3 proclaims, “Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.” Oftentimes, women praised God with timbrels, and instruments like the harp or lyre were used to sing psalms. Although songs by women, including Miriam, Deborah, Hannah, and Mary, are recorded in the Bible, praising God was a unified effort involving all of Israel.
Verse 5 says, “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.” Praising God was not restricted to the tabernacle or temple, but it was also to be in the home or in private places. In this daily devotion, praise God in the secret place as well as in the congregation. Psalm 34:1 encourages you to praise the Lord at all times.
A Two-Edged Sword
Verse 6 exclaims, “Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand.” This signifies the dual nature of praise; not only does it exalt God, but it breaks the enemy’s power in your life. Your praise lets him know that your allegiance is to the Almighty, reminding the enemy that he’s subject to God’s power. When you praise, you invoke His presence. In this daily devotion, say out loud that God’s presence brings power, for the weapons of your warfare aren’t carnal but mighty through God.
Exalt the Lord
When Miriam picked up her timbrel and led the women in singing praise, she didn’t know she was waging warfare against evil forces. As Deborah sang after Israel’s victory over the Canaanites, her song exalted God’s power and broadcast Satan’s inferiority. Hannah sang triumphantly, while the enemy wallowed in defeat. Mary sings praise to God, who “shewed strength with his arm,” through a baby born to her who would one day crush the devil’s head. And when David played the lyre, the demons departed from Saul.
In your daily devotion, say out loud, “I will exalt the Lord and my praise will pierce through the darkness, striking down my enemies.” In verse 7, praise executes “vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people.” Vengeance belongs to the Lord. In today’s daily devotion, when you praise God for His might, trust that He is working things out mightily for you.
He Binds Your Enemies
In Wednesday’s daily devotion, concluding verses 8-9 demonstrate the power of praise that binds the powers of evil, enforcing judgment already written against its realm. And when spiritual forces are bound, natural forces are dismantled. So sing a song of praise unto the Lord, for He is worthy, and, like the saints of old, you wield destruction against the enemy with the sword of the Spirit.
