Daily Devotion Thoughtful Thursday | February 26, 2026
It’s Thursday, and time for your daily devotion. In Joshua 2, the Canaanites heard of the powerful God who split the Red Sea and led His people safely to the other side. But while Israel afterwards murmured and complained, the nations of Canaan feared. In today’s daily devotion, praise God for His mighty power.
Rahab of Jericho
In verse 1, Joshua, Moses’s successor, sends two men to spy out Jericho, a Canaanite city, and they stay in the house of the prostitute Rahab. But someone spots them and sends word to the king, who, in turn, sends soldiers to seize the spies. However, Rahab convinces them that the spies have already left after hiding them on her roof. The troop pursues them for three days to no avail. In today’s daily devotion, at times you’ll have to decide to do what God leads when it opposes what earthly leaders command.
A Powerful God
In verse 9, when the men come out of hiding, Rahab asserts, “I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us.” In verse 10, she recounts hearing about God parting the Red Sea and defeating two Amorite kings. To the Israelites, these were, perhaps, normal occurrences, but to Rahab and the inhabitants of Jericho, these proved the true and living God. In verse 11, she admits that the city is afraid of them. In your daily devotion, glorify God for His Sovereign acts and know that there is no other god like Him.
Confession of Faith

Then she makes a bold confession: “For the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.” Rahab, who is not of Jewish descent, has just confessed faith in God. Unlike the Israelites, Rahab didn’t see the Red Sea part or witness the capture of the two kings, but she heard about God’s unstoppable power, which was enough to ignite her faith.
Rahab brought her whole family into her house against the children of Israel’s attack on Jericho. She, along with her family, will serve the God of Israel. In this daily devotion, know that God invites all people to trust in Him.
The Blood of Jesus
In verse 12, when Rahab asks the spies to spare her and her family, they promise to do so if she hangs the red cord by which she helped them escape from her window. In verse 21, she says, “According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.” Rahab wastes no time tying the red cord in her window.
Like the blood the children of Israel put on their doorposts on the night of Passover, the red cord represents the blood of Jesus that covers Rahab’s family. They are protected from any harm that could come their way because their God is mighty to save, and He will deliver them. In today’s daily devotion, like the spies, you can confidently proclaim that the Lord will deliver to you those things He has promised.
Pressing Forward
In Thursday’s daily devotion, rejoice that the God you serve is undefeatable. He is not only the God of Israel, but He is also the God of the Gentiles. It doesn’t matter who you are; it only matters if you have faith. Rahab started as a prostitute, but became the great-great-grandmother of King David, which places her in the lineage of Christ. In your daily devotion, like Paul, forget those things behind you, and press forward with a new life before you.
