Daily Devotional For Tuesday Thought with Total Apex Media | September 16, 2025

It’s Tuesday’s daily devotion. Today, let’s look at the last verse of Psalm 23. It concludes our series on David’s psalm. As we conclude this deeply moving psalm, let’s reflect on our Shepherd’s excellent care for us. He not only watches us, but He leads and guides us. Restoration and deliverance from life’s darkest storms are our Shepherd’s specialties.

Always providing comfort, He prepares a bountiful table for us in the midst of our enemy’s canceled plots. We can rejoice because we’re filled to overflowing with the goodness of God. Verse 6 is a powerful end to this much-admired psalm: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

Surely Goodness and Mercy

David’s praise isn’t hesitant or uncertain. He declares, “Surely.” In other words, there is no doubt or question about the goodness and mercy of God. Goodness refers to God’s grace, which is unmerited favor. God’s goodness is an extension of His grace unto us. There is nothing we can do to earn it. It is God’s gift.

Mercy speaks of God’s kindness. The justice we deserve was placed on our Shepherd. We aren’t punished according to our sins, but He forgave, showing His love and favor. The ultimate expression of God’s love is our Good Shepherd who gave His life for the sheep. You can be sure that God’s goodness and mercy are yours today and every day. Meditate on God’s goodness and mercy in today’s daily devotion.

Shall Follow You

David proclaims that God’s goodness and mercy follow him. That means everywhere David goes, he has two unseen companions. Like guardian angels, they move with him. They are constant guardians as obedient servants of God. You also have these two angels following you. They are God-sent to protect God’s plan for your life.

Praise God in today’s daily devotion that when hardships try to corner you, you can boldly declare that God’s goodness and mercy are with you.

All Your Life’s Days

David gives us a time period of how long goodness and mercy will follow him. He says it’s all the days of his life. David feels fully protected because He knows God’s grace and mercy are with Him for a lifetime. He will never be without these two companions. They are on assignment from God. Therefore, they won’t leave their post.

Trust that goodness and mercy won’t pick up and leave you. They won’t go on vacation or take a break to have dinner at Applebee’s. They will remain with you forever. Rejoice in today’s daily devotion that goodness and mercy are with you for all your days.

Dwell in the House

God has a dwelling place for you. Psalm 91 talks about dwelling in God’s secret place. There’s no place like it. On this earth, God invites you to live in His presence. Jesus said He would go to prepare a place for us. David knew God had a place for him, whether in this life or beyond. We can be certain that we will dwell with God forever.

Proclaim in today’s daily devotion that wherever God is, your home is secure.

With the Lord Forever

Dwelling in God’s house isn’t temporary; it’s eternal. There is no possibility of separation when we dwell in God’s house. Psalm 100 says that God’s mercy is everlasting. It’s not here today and gone tomorrow. So like David, we can rejoice that God’s promises are eternal. The Good Shepherd doesn’t lead us astray. Put your faith in His promises in today’s daily devotion.

His promises to David are His promises to us. Therefore, we have the same confidence. We have the same assurance.

Final Thoughts

Our Good Shepherd’s love is so amazing. His care for us is so spectacular. You’re never without His goodness and mercy; they’re your constant companions.  On assignment from God, they faithfully follow you throughout your life. Take comfort that you will be with the One who cares for you forever. As we end Psalm 23, hold on to God’s promises. Let them last a lifetime.
