Shantel VanSanten’s FBI return will bring Special Agent Nina Chase back into the fold for a guest appearance in Season 9, reuniting her with her new husband, Stuart Scola, according to Deadline. The episode, Season 9, Episode 7, is titled “Posterity” and airs Monday, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
The Role and Episode Details
In “Posterity,” the team learns that one of its own cameras captured video of a criminal on the Most Wanted list after an online influencer is murdered. Nina joins the squad to catch him before he disappears, according to CBS’s official synopsis. Jake Tinker wrote the episode, and Milena Govich directed it.
VanSanten’s History With the Franchise
VanSanten first played Nina as a special guest star on FBI in Season 4, stepping in while Missy Peregrym’s Maggie Bell was on leave. Nina left the team for the first time in Season 5’s sixth episode, “Double Bind,” after learning she was pregnant, but she didn’t stay gone long. She was back later that season, and the Season 5 finale saw the birth of her and Scola’s son, Douglas.
From there, VanSanten moved over to FBI: Most Wanted, where she was a series regular for Seasons 5 and 6 before that spinoff ended in 2025. That’s left the flagship show as the only place to catch up with the couple fans call “Scolina.”
Her most recent appearance came in Season 8’s “Confetti,” which aired Feb. 23. After a dangerous undercover operation, Nina and Scola finally got engaged and tied the knot at a low-key City Hall ceremony, with Dougie and the people closest to them looking on.
What’s Next
“Posterity” marks Nina’s first case alongside Scola as his wife, and it’s VanSanten’s next confirmed appearance opposite John Boyd. Whether this one-episode visit turns into something more regular is a question CBS hasn’t answered yet.
