Charlamagne Tha God, 47 Gives Credit to Gavin Newsom but Doubles Down on Jon Stewart for President

Everyone in the world knows that Charlamagne Tha God has never been one to bite his tongue. The Breakfast Club host has made a career out of saying what everyone’s thinking but is too scared to say out loud. And his latest political hot take? Well, it’s got the public’s eyes wide open.

Charlamagne Tha God Believes Jon Stewart Should Run for President

After getting into a whole spat with Donald Trump (because apparently that’s just Tuesday for Charlamagne now), the radio personality is doubling down on something he’s been saying for a while: Jon Stewart should run for President. Speaking at Invest Fest in Atlanta alongside Steve Harvey, Charlamagne Tha God didn’t hold back when discussing the current state of media coverage.

And honestly? His frustration is pretty understandable. Recently, he spoke about the media’s inadequacy in covering the pressing issues in the country today. In speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, he said, “Media is in a very strange place, because you got Fox News, you got CNN, you got MSNBC, those are supposed to be the traditional outlets where people go to get some form of truth. But the reality is they’re playing a ratings and revenue game too.”

The guy’s got a point. While Fox News sticks to its conservative playbook like it’s gospel, Charlamagne Tha God argues that CNN and MSNBC are missing their chance to provide real balance. Instead, they’re chasing Fox Now. Here’s where things get interesting. Charlamagne Tha God isn’t just throwing Stewart’s name around because he’s popular; he’s surely on to something here.

He has actually thought this through, and his reasoning is surprisingly sound. “Unless a game changer comes into the party, and I’ve said this before, like a Jon Stewart. And Jon Stewart doesn’t even have to be a part of the Democratic Party. I do think Jon Stewart is somebody who could run and really shake things up.”  The radio host had said to Fox News that he would  “love to see Jon Stewart run in 2028, and he still stands by that.

The Jon Stewart Solution That Actually Makes Sense

But wait, there’s more. He’s not suggesting Stewart because of celebrity status (though let’s be real, that doesn’t hurt these days). Charlamagne Tha God sees something bigger in the Daily Show host: “And not because he’s a celebrity, but because sometimes, when you look at a person, right, you can tell that what they’re doing is even too small for them.

He also added, “With all the success that he’s had being Jon Stewart on television, hosting for the past 25 years, when I listen to him, when I think about when he went and stood on Capitol Hill and got that bill passed for those firefighters in New York City [or] just listen to him every Monday, you can look at him and tell he’s so much bigger than that [and] should be some type of elected official.”

While Charlamagne Tha God appreciates California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent moves (especially his Trump-trolling tactics), he’s not exactly ready to crown him the Democratic savior. And his reasoning is brutally honest. “I think on a national level, he’ll get smoke, because all people are going to do is just go look at California. See, when you’re a governor, you actually have a record,” Charlamagne Tha God pointed out.

Charlamagne Tha God isn’t just picking favorites here. He’s calling for a complete Democratic Party makeover, and his prescription is refreshingly simple: “They just need to be a party that focuses on working-class people. That’s it. ‘How can I put more food on people’s table? How can I put more money in people’s pockets?‘ That’s it. If you can keep people safe and you can keep money in people’s pockets, that’s all people care about.”

Final Thoughts

Charlamagne Tha God is clearly suggesting politicians should actually focus on helping people instead of getting caught up in political theater. Revolutionary concept, right? Charlamagne Tha God’s conviction that Jon Stewart should run for President isn’t just wishful thinking. When you look at Stewart’s advocacy for 9/11 first responders, his ability to cut through political nonsense with precision, and his genuine connection with everyday Americans, Charlamagne Tha God’s suggestion starts making a lot more sense.
