It Looks Like Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred Didn’t Do So Good As It Gets Review Bombed on Steam

Diablo IV is an adventure RPG about the rise of Lilith on the battlefield called Sanctuary

Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred was released last week, and there’s been so much hype surrounding this second expansion to the game, as it acts as the conclusion to the three-part Hatred arc for the game. Fans also got to face the Lord of Hatred, Mephisto, as he reigns with terror on Sanctuary. However, after the release of Lord of Hatred, it seems some fans were a bit disappointed with the update.

Lord of Hatred is Review Bombed on Steam

According to the Diablo IV Steam homepage, Diablo IV has fallen to “Mixed” reviews, falling to on 66% positive reviews, following the release of its Lord of Hatred expansion. This is especially surprising given how many fans were excited about the release of this expansion. It’s been reported that while the Lord of Hatred expansion has been widely well-received by players, a bunch of issues have left them unimpressed with the update, leading to a bunch of negative reviews.

According to reviews, there are a few reasons players are having a hard time with the new expansion. Some players commented on the technical performance of the expansion, while the majority of players found issues with the game’s monetization model. For starters, some players were annoyed that, having paid for the Vessel of Hatred expansion almost two years ago, it was included as a bonus in the Lord of Hatred expansion for free.

Players were also miffed at the fact that the game offers paid, limited-time in-game cosmetics, such as Diablo IV’s recent World of Warcraft collaboration, with many people pointing out that they use the fear of missing out to bring in sales. This has led to the majority of fans feeling that players who’ve been playing Diablo IV from the beginning are getting screwed over, having to buy each expansion as they release, as well as being reeled in with buying limited-time cosmetics. Here are just a few of the negative reviews that players have left on the Diablo IV Steam homepage:

“The price for lord of hatred for people who have diablo+vessel expansion is insane vs the collection which comes with everything. New players get everything for like $100 while players from the beginning, buying each expansion, after buying this new one, is paying $200 total, double price for loyal customers. Wtf? This doesn’t even make sense. Stupid company. Not buying expansion or playing this again. Game is mid and a time sink so nothing really lost.

Grim Dawn has a new expansion coming out very soon and is a much more dense experience that respects your time.” wrote kumasama.

“Releasing expensions with new classes is ok to me. Paywalling skills for existing classes is not. Blizzard is a greedy company with no respect for its players.” said Nayero.

“Full price for new DLC (which includes Vessel of Hatred) for players who already own VoH? Check
New skill tree but with Paywalled skills on already established classes? check

Don’t see a point of sinking more of my time trying to find more ways Blizz are trying to screw over existing player base right now with this update.” wrote Midian.

The Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred expansion is out now on PC (Battle.net and Steam), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. The Lord of Hatred expansion will conclude the three-part Hatred arc, where players will face Mephisto as he terrorizes Sanctuary, as well as bring in the daughter of Hatred herself, Lilith, in this final battle.

Though the game has recieved some negative reviews on Steam as of late, the Lord of Hatred expansion has seen some positive reviews from critics. It’s not yet certain if Blizzard Entertainment will address these issues; however, the devs have put out a few bug fixes since the release of the new expansion. Hopefully, players will still find enjoyment in the new expansion.
