Crimson Desert’s Complex Base Building System – Storing Items and Unlocking You House

Among the countless things you can do in Crimson Desert, the devs really put some thought into the base-building and customization aspects of the game. Probably because your main playable character, Cliff, isn’t customizable, aside from the different armor you can equip on him.

As you journey across Pywel, you’ll be able to unlock access to a cabin that will act as your home base, which will also be customizable as you collect furniture during your travels or buy it. You’ll also be able to store some of these items and other things in chests around the map. Here’s how you will unlock your house and how you can store those extra items you don’t need to carry but will find a use for sooner or later in Crimson Desert.

Unlocking Your Home

After you’ve completed the First Step to Rebuilding quest, it’ll bring you to your next one, called A Fresh Start. After completing both quests, you will unlock your Crimson Desert house in Chapter 3: Howling Hill, which unlocks the Greymane Camp on Howling Hill.

Speaking with Marquis Serkis at the start of Chapter 3 unlocks the Howling Hill campground. Once the soldier on horseback has taken you there, and you’ve also spoken with Barden Middler, you must complete every building objective in the quest A Fresh Start, to unlock your personal home within that camp. These objectives involve:

  • Moving sacks.
  • Driving stakes in the ground.
  • Pushing a wagon.
  • Raising a banner to complete the camp’s foundation.

When you’ve completed all your objectives, open your map to find the location of your house, a cabin southeast of the main camp. Your house acts as a costemic feature in Crimson Desert. There isn’t any real practical use for it; however, you’ll be able to customize it as you like by adding furniture and dressing it up as you like. It really satisfies the character creators out there who felt deprived of character customization with Cliff.

Storing Items

When Crimson Desert was first released, hundreds of complaints flooded social media about the prospect of players having to carry every single item they pick up during their travels. In the latest update for the game, the devs fixed this issue by implementing a private storage box to store all your excess items. The box will move to different locations as you progress in the game; however, you’ll receive access to it pretty early in the game.

During the New Journey quest in the prologue, you’ll end up in the town of Hernand, where there will be a Royal Trading Post located right outside the town. You’ll find the first private storage box at this tent. Private storage boxes have a fixed capacity of 240 items, so you won’t run out of storage any time soon throughout your playthrough, and you’ll be able to use this private storage box for the first two chapters of the main story in the game.

When you get to chapter 3 and complete the main quest Return, you’ll unlock the Howling Hill camp. This will not only unlock your customizable house, but it will also unlock the next location of the private storage box, which you can find in the large tent by the table and cart. And don’t worry, any loot or items you’ve stored in the box at the previous locations move with it. So far, the storage box won’t move for the rest of the game; however, that can change if the devs update the game and move it to a new area.
