The Rebuild World anime finally has a creative team. Kadokawa has revealed the main staff and a first key visual for the television adaptation, according to Anime News Network. The news is the first update on the project in more than three years, since the series was announced at Anime Expo in July 2023. Here is what we know about the people building it.
Rebuild World anime staff: who is making it
Animation production is listed at Raging Bull. Tsukasa Sakurai is the chief director, and Shingo Uchida is the director. Naoki Tozuka handles series composition, which means he oversees the scripts, and Hiromi Katō is in charge of character design. The official site for the Rebuild World anime is rebuildworld-anime.com.
No premiere date or episode count has been announced. The production still lists both as to be determined, so fans of the Rebuild World anime will have to wait for more news before they can plan around a release window.
The cast announced in 2023
The voice cast was revealed months after the original announcement, during the Dengeki Bunko 30th Summer Festival Online event in 2023. Daiki Yamashita plays the protagonist, Akira. Yurika Kubo voices Alpha, the mysterious AI who guides him, and Honoka Inoue plays Sheryl. Yamashita is known for his work on “My Hero Academia,” and Kubo is known for “Girls’ Last Tour,” according to MyAnimeList. Kadokawa has not shared any further casting news with the new staff announcement.
What the first key visual means
A key visual is the main piece of promotional art for an anime, and it usually sets the tone for the whole project. For a story as dependent on atmosphere as this one, the artwork gives fans a first look at how the ruined world and its hunters will look on screen. For the Rebuild World anime, character designs also matter a great deal here, because the story leans on the bond between Akira and Alpha. Katō’s role in turning the light novel art into animation-ready designs will be one of the first things fans judge once footage appears.
What the Rebuild World story is about
The story is set decades after an unknown cataclysm, in a world where hunters explore the ruins of an older civilization in search of lost technology and fight monsters along the way. Akira is a young orphan who meets Alpha, an AI that trains him to become a hunter and explore dangerous ruins. The pair form the center of the narrative, which mixes post-apocalyptic science fiction with action. Readers who enjoy that mix will find the premise familiar, but the AI partnership gives it a distinct hook, and it is the reason many viewers are watching for the Rebuild World anime.
Where the story comes from
Nahuse wrote the original web novel, which began publishing online in February 2017 on Shōsetsuka ni Narō and Kakuyomu. Kadokawa launched the light novel series in May 2019 under its Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint, with art by Gin, environment design by yish and mechanical design by cell. Nine volumes had been released as of April 2025, according to Wikipedia.
A manga adaptation by Kirihito Ayamura began in Dengeki Maoh in July 2019. J-Novel Club licensed both the light novel and the manga for English-language digital release, so the story is available to read while the anime is in production.
