The Range Rover Sport recall covers 873 SUVs in the United States over rear subframes that can crack, according to Motor1. Jaguar Land Rover traced the problem to a forging defect at suppliers and filed the recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under campaign number 26V613.
The Range Rover Sport recall applies to 2024 through 2026 model-year Range Rover Sports built at the Solihull plant in England between Oct. 3, 2023, and May 22, 2026. Not every Range Rover Sport from those model years is affected.
What happened with the Range Rover Sport recall
Motor1 reported that the defective subframes came from two suppliers, Linamar Casting and Gestamp Assembly. “On 04 June 2026, a forging defect was detected in a rear subframe at the supplier, and the part was quarantined,” Jaguar Land Rover said in its NHTSA filing.
The cracks are hard to catch because the final machining step on the subframe can hide them from a visual check. According to NHTSA documents, a damaged subframe could reduce structural protection in a crash and affect handling. The company has not reported any accidents, injuries or fires tied to the defect.
What Range Rover Sport owners should do
Under the Range Rover Sport recall, dealers will inspect the rear subframe on each affected vehicle and replace it at no cost, per Motor1. Vehicles with uncertain production records will be inspected first to determine whether a new subframe is needed. Until then, Motor1 reported, owners should avoid heavy towing and severe off-road use.
Land Rover plans to begin mailing owner notices Nov. 20, 2026, according to NHTSA documents, with remedy details to follow in later letters. Owners who do not want to wait can check their vehicle identification number with the NHTSA recall lookup or call Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. NHTSA’s hotline is 1-888-327-4236.
How to check if your SUV is part of the Range Rover Sport recall
Start with the basics. Your SUV must be a 2024, 2025 or 2026 Range Rover Sport built between Oct. 3, 2023, and May 22, 2026. Because only a specific batch of subframes is affected, two vehicles from the same model year can end up on opposite sides of the Range Rover Sport recall.
The fastest answer comes from your vehicle identification number, which appears on the driver-side dashboard and the registration card. Enter it in the NHTSA lookup tool or give it to a Land Rover retailer. Land Rover lists reference numbers D165 and D166 for the campaign, which can help when you call the company.
If your vehicle shows an open Range Rover Sport recall, schedule the inspection rather than waiting for the mailed notice. The repair costs owners nothing, and the dealer will replace the part if it finds cracks.
Other Land Rover recalls in the news
The Range Rover Sport recall for subframes is separate from a recall of a single 2026 Range Rover Sport built Feb. 16, 2026, over a powertrain control module defect, Jalopnik reported. NHTSA’s report describes “a potentially deformed circuit board” that can cause the engine to stall without warning. Four vehicles with the faulty part reached customers, but only one owner is covered by that recall.
Jalopnik also reported a separate recall of 1,073 Range Rover Sport SV models from 2024 through 2026 over pre-cracked rear subframes.
Land Rover’s flagship SUV has been in the news for other reasons, including the Range Rover Sport Electric. Other automakers are dealing with their own safety actions, such as the Silverado and Sierra airbag recall and an earlier Ford Explorer rear suspension recall.
What’s next
For the Range Rover Sport recall, the manufacturer must file quarterly status reports for eight consecutive quarters after the recall begins, followed by annual reports that track how many vehicles have been repaired.
