Pass the Salt has already earned a second season, with development underway before the queer interfaith comedy’s first episode even airs, The Hollywood Reporter reported in an exclusive.
Director and star Panta Mosleh’s sitcom will debut on OUTtv on Nov. 2, with new episodes running through a finale on Dec. 7. It launches on the Hollywood Suite platform a day earlier, on Nov. 1.
What Happened: Pass The Salt Lands Early Renewal
The series, produced by PK Studio Productions, follows Mosleh as Parmiss Mansour, a Muslim-Iranian grad student who falls for a young Jewish woman named Nava, played by Amanda Wear. The show tracks Parmiss coming out, including to her traditional Muslim family, while the two women navigate their relationship across cultural lines.
“What excites me about Pass the Salt is getting to add a perspective we rarely get to see within the comedy landscape: a queer Middle Eastern and more specifically Persian woman at the center of a romantic comedy,” Mosleh said in The Hollywood Reporter exclusive. “At its heart, Pass the Salt is simply a love story about two women from different backgrounds trying to figure out their relationship, while navigating their families, expectations and some overbearing parents.”
The show’s leads, Mosleh, Wear, Adam Fox and Nathaniel Vass, will all return for season two, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Valeh Ashraf, Moheb Jindran and Babak Haleky are also set to reprise their roles. Negotiations on international sales are underway, with initial deals expected shortly, per the outlet.
What It Means For Fans Of The Queer Comedy Boom
The early Pass the Salt renewal arrives amid an accelerating wave of Canadian queer television. The series follows the breakout success of Heated Rivalry, which streams in Canada on Crave and in the U.S. on HBO Max.
Other recent Canadian queer shows include Slo Pitch, a mockumentary about an LGBTQ+ softball team with Elliot Page as executive producer, which debuted on Crave last month, per the outlet. Earlier hits like Sort Of and Schitt’s Creek helped establish the lane Pass the Salt now joins.
“Canada has a remarkable history of allowing queer stories to be specific, while being universal,” Mosleh said. “Shows like Schitt’s Creek, Sort Of and now Heated Rivalry have shown that audiences will embrace Canadian queer stories when creators are given the freedom to tell them authentically.”
Background On Panta Mosleh

Her acting credits include the TV movies Christmas With the Singhs and 12 Dares of Christmas, the feature drama Cast Away the Clouds and the HBO drama The Last of Us.
