Osiris Reborn crew: 8 epic mercenaries ready to fight
Eight mercenaries, one stolen ship and no Rocinante. The Osiris Reborn crew, the new cast at the heart of Owlcat Games’ “The Expanse: Osiris Reborn,” is now fully introduced on the game’s official website, and CBR rounded up all eight members of the Gemini’s team on Thursday, Oct. 1.
The third-person action RPG is due in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG, Gematsu reported when the window was announced in March. Xbox Wire added that it will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title and available day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Meet the Osiris Reborn crew
Instead of following James Holden’s Rocinante, players lead a squad from Pinkwater Security aboard the Gemini, an experimental enemy ship they hijack after escaping the massacre on Eros station, according to Xbox Wire. Here’s the full Osiris Reborn crew, based on CBR’s rundown of the official character profiles:
- The captain (you): A fully custom Pinkwater Security leader with any gender, a choice of backgrounds and a player-designed look.
- J: Your identical twin and the Gemini’s executive officer.
- Regina Marek: An Earth-born liaison officer who fights as a sniper. The game bills her as “one of the best corporate spies in the system,” with a personal mission she keeps close.
- Michael Degarmo: The ship’s gunner, a UN-trained Earther who grew “disillusioned with UN ideology” and moved into private security.
- Zafar Hejazi: A Martian mechanical engineer with a military past who left Mars in a “self-imposed exile.”
- Aleesha Young: A civilian Martian and electronic warfare specialist who left corporate life and tends to prefer machines to people.
- Polly Haart: A Belter listed as the Gemini’s shipgirl, whose father strongly backed the Outer Planets Alliance.
- Mateo “Teo” Lee: The ship’s doctor, a native of Luna who lost his medical license and is barred from practicing in UN territory.
That mix of Earthers, Martians and Belters in the Osiris Reborn crew mirrors the Rocinante’s makeup while giving Owlcat room to tell its own story, CBR argued.
Where the story fits in ‘The Expanse’
The game runs alongside Seasons 1 through 3 of the TV series, or between the novels “Leviathan Wakes” and “Caliban’s War,” Polygon reported. Holden appears with Steven Strait’s likeness, but most characters, including your captain, experience the events as they happen. Polygon also noted that you don’t need to know the books or show to follow along.
To keep the space mechanics grounded, Owlcat consulted former NASA astronaut and International Space Station commander Leroy Chiao on details such as magnetic boots that let characters move in zero gravity. “We hope that our approach to blending realism with gameplay considerations will make players experience something engaging and truly immersive,” game design producer Yuliya Chernenko said in a studio video cited by Polygon.
How the Osiris Reborn crew fights
Members of the Osiris Reborn crew are more than background characters. Xbox Wire described an Exploit system that lets crew members wipe out groups of enemies at key spots in a level, and crewmates can lend support even when they aren’t in your active squad.
Your own captain has no fixed class. IGN reported that you start with a specialization but can grow across four combat skill trees (Marksmanship, Gadgets, Survivalist and Leader), with weapons and gadgets you upgrade at a workbench shaping how you play. Companions get their own skill trees and signature gadgets; Zafar, for example, deploys a turret that can be upgraded to shoot down incoming projectiles.
How to play before 2027
Fans who want an early look at the game can buy the Miller’s Pack ($79.99) or the Collector’s Edition ($289) on the game’s website, Polygon reported. Both include access to a closed beta that opened April 22 and runs until launch. The beta mission features Zafar as your only backup, according to Xbox Wire.
We first looked at the game’s Mass Effect-style ambitions in our earlier Osiris Reborn preview. For another sci-fi RPG on the way, see our Starfinder Afterlight report, and follow our gaming news for updates on the Osiris Reborn crew as launch approaches.
