Actress Olivia Munn may be a star, but she’s not immune to the challenges of being a mom. Recently, she talked about how she had a breakdown while taking care of her two children, three-year-old Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney and six-month-old Méi June Mulaney. The 44-year-old shared her experience with Jenna Bush Hager, a guest host on The Today Show.
Olivia Munn Interview
In her conversation, Olivia Munn shared a story that took place in December 2024. Her husband, comedian John Mulaney, was in New York rehearsing for the Broadway show All In: A Comedy About Love.” The family traveled to New York, and she was alone with the children.
My 3-year-old hit his limit. It was screaming, crying and saying things to me where my feelings were getting hurt … and then he didn’t want me to be with my daughter because the jealousy was coming in and I just broke down crying — a cry I have never cried … I was so distraught.
Shen then shared that she recorded a video of herself crying and sent it to other friends who were on their second children. In her message to them, she said, “‘You guys know. You go through this. It’s happening. I’m here with you,’”
Olivia Munn said that having a second baby was like “landing on Mars.”
She also told Hager that gratitude is everything.
I said, ‘You know what? God willing we get to work as much as we are working now forever, and god willing we’re shifting and jumping around and moving everywhere and we’re so lucky.’ Every time there is a breakdown or a fit or whatever, it just makes me laugh.
In March of 2024, Olivia Munn shared her breast cancer diagnosis for the first time. Following having her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score calculated, her risk was found to be 37%. Additional testing found cancer in both breasts. As part of her treatment, Munn has gone through a double mastectomy, hysterectomy, and oophorectomy. But her diagnosis and treatment didn’t prevent her from persuing her dream of being a mother.
She’d had her with Mulaney son in 2021 and later, thanks to the forsight to freeze her eggs, their daughter was born on September 14, 2024 via surrogate after she and Mulaney got married in July of 2024. More recently, Olivia Munn has been back on The Daily Show with a surprise appearance where she roasted President Donald Trump over his tariff strategies. It’s good to see her on television again!
Thanks for sharing with us, Olivia Munn. We’re looking forward to your next project.
