Marvel fans have plenty to be excited about following the latest announcements at New York Comic Con 2026.
As the MCU continues to expand across live-action television and animation, the studio brought several surprises at New York Comic Con 2026 that could shape its future on Disney+. From a new spy thriller to a long-awaited Defenders reunion, Marvel is giving fans plenty of reasons to keep watching.
Marvel Announces a New Spy Thriller

One of the biggest surprises from Marvel’s panel at New York Comic Con 2026 was the announcement of “Zodiac”, a new spy thriller scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in 2028. Although Marvel has kept most details under wraps, the announcement immediately raises questions about the studio’s plans for its espionage stories and its role in the next phase of the MCU, especially with Kevin Feige confirming that “Avengers: Secret Wars” will initiate a soft reboot of the MCU.
After the failure of “Secret Invasion,” many fans expected Marvel to stay away from dipping its toe back into the uncertain waters of the spy thriller genre, but the announcement does the opposite. Though largely unknown, the term Zodiac has a rich, diverse history in Marvel Comics, with strong ties to S.H.I.E.L.D. and its leader, Nick Fury.
That history and the series’ logo have already sparked speculation about possible connections to S.H.I.E.L.D., or even that the show could be the spiritual successor to “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” However, Marvel has not confirmed the show’s specific storyline or its relationship to existing characters.
With filming expected to begin in spring 2027, fans will likely have to wait before learning which heroes and villains will drive the story.
Daredevil and the Defenders Are Reuniting

The future of “Daredevil: Born Again” also took center stage at New York Comic Con 2026, but the news came with a bittersweet confirmation. The third season, scheduled for 2027, will be the show’s last.
Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, and Finn Jones appeared at the panel, bringing Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist together once again for the first time since the 2017 “The Defenders” show. Mike Colter will also return as Luke Cage, completing the reunion, but he wasn’t at the panel.
For fans who have waited years to see these characters share the screen again, the announcement is an exciting development. At the same time, ending the series with its third season raises questions about how Marvel intends to conclude Matt Murdock’s story.
“Daredevil: Born Again” was meant to highlight Daredevil’s incorporation into the MCU’s broader frame, yet the character and the show still feel largely self-contained. With the show ending abruptly at the same time they plan to bring back the Defenders team, fans worry Daredevil won’t get the proper ending he deserves.
Marvel Animation Has Plenty of Surprises

One of the biggest standouts from the New York Comic Con 2026 Marvel panel was the significant attention given to Marvel’s animated lineup, with “X-Men ’97” and “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” taking center stage.
The third season of “X-Men ’97” is scheduled to premiere in 2027, and fans were given a special teaser focused on one of the show’s most iconic couples: Rogue and Gambit. Attendees received a preview featuring Rogue and Gambit’s wedding alongside the return of the Brotherhood of Mutants. Along with news of a fourth season in the works, the series will expand with cameos from both Deadpool and She-Hulk.
Meanwhile, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” Season 2 will arrive on January 13, 2027. Though the first season took a relatively grounded approach, season two will bring in more iconic storylines, including Doc Ock and the iconic black suit, potentially signaling a darker chapter for the young hero.
Marvel also revealed plans to continue making Marvel Zombies-centered content with seasonal specials. “Marvel Zombies: Winter Soldier” is planned for Halloween 2027, followed by “Marvel Zombies: Fist of Khonshu” in 2028 and “Marvel Zombies: The Last Guardian” in 2029.
Whether these projects ultimately satisfy fans remains to be seen. For now, New York Comic Con 2026 has made one thing clear for Marvel: its future on Disney+ will include familiar heroes, new mysteries, and a few surprises worth watching.
