Mick Gordon Doom return

Composer Mick Gordon said he would consider a Mick Gordon Doom series return “in a heartbeat” if the right circumstances came together, speaking in an interview at PAX Australia over the weekend of Oct. 12, 2026, according to IGN.

Gordon, who composed the music for Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal (2020), addressed the possibility of working on the franchise again despite a public falling-out with the Doom Eternal development team after that game’s release.

What Gordon Said About A Doom Series Return

“There are a lot of dominoes that would have to fall in a very specific way for that to occur,” Gordon said, according to IGN. “If those dominoes ever fell in that way, I would. Of course. Within a heartbeat.”

Gordon also said he still has unfinished creative plans for the series. “I had a whole list of ideas where I wanted to go with Doom,” he said. “And I’d love to explore that one day, for sure.”

Background On The Dispute With Id Software

Gordon’s comments follow a bitter public dispute with id Software that emerged after Doom Eternal’s release. In a 2022 Medium post, Gordon accused the studio of failing to pay him for half of his work on the Doom Eternal soundtrack, according to IGN. He also accused Doom Eternal executive producer Marty Stratton of being abusive during the scoring process, the outlet reported.

Gordon’s scores for both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal became known among fans for their heavy, industrial sound, which helped define the reboot series’ identity after its 2016 relaunch.

What It Means For The Franchise

Any Mick Gordon Doom series return would require resolving the issues tied to the 2022 dispute, which Gordon himself acknowledged by describing the conditions as a series of “dominoes” that would need to fall in a specific way. He did not detail what those conditions would need to look like.

The comments also come after id Software was affected by Microsoft layoffs in July, which impacted 136 staff members, according to IGN. The studio’s current staffing situation was not addressed by Gordon in the interview as reported.

What’s Next

No talks between Gordon and id Software have been announced, and no new Doom project involving Gordon has been confirmed. His remarks at PAX Australia mark the most direct statement he has made about a potential return to the franchise since the 2022 dispute became public, according to IGN.
