Matthew Perry was found dead by one of his assistants on October 28, 2023. After an autopsy was done on Perry, it was found that ketamine was the primary cause of death. Perry was seeking help for mental health issues that included depression, and he legally obtained the ketamine from his primary doctor. The treatment of using ketamine for depression has recently become more frequent and common. A month before Perry’s death, the doctor and Peri met up to exchange $4500 for at least four vials of ketamine.
The amount of ketamine given to Perry was known to be dangerous by Dr. Mark Chavez, and he gave it to him anyway. People speculate that the doctor was taking advantage of Perry’s past addiction problems to make extra money. There is another person amidst this controversy who is to blame. Plasencia is charged with seven counts of distributing ketamine, along with two charges for falsifying Matthew Perry’s death records. Plasencia helped Chavez get the ketamine to Perry.
A trial has been set for October 2024 for each individual. Dr. Mark Chavez has announced that he will plead guilty to the charges and will receive 10 years in prison for his crime. It was much easier to swallow sentencing than if he was sentenced for manslaughter. The doctor will remain free until his sentencing as long as he turns in his passport and no longer practices medicine.
