Universal Music Publishing Group promoted Maree Hamblion to Executive Vice President, A&R and Creative for Australia and New Zealand. Hamblion, who is based in Sydney, moves up from her previous post as Senior Vice President, A&R, a role she has held since joining UMPG in 2024.
In the role, Hamblion oversees UMPG’s creative strategy and talent development across both markets, focusing on strengthening opportunities for local songwriters and producers internationally.
The Details Of Hamblion’s Expanded Role
Hamblion’s expanded responsibilities include developing UMPG’s creative facilities in Australia and New Zealand. Building on the existing LVL 4 recording studio, the plans include a dedicated songwriting room and content space to encourage collaboration between writers and producers.
UMPG Chairman and CEO Jody Gerson said Hamblion’s track record proved her readiness for the role. “Since Maree joined UMPG, she has made a tremendous creative impact on our roster in Australia and New Zealand while building strong relationships with our A&R teams around the world,” Gerson said. “She understands that developing songwriters and artists locally also means creating opportunities for them globally, and Tones and I is a perfect example of that.”
“Songwriters are at the heart of everything we do,” Hamblion said in a statement. “I’m excited to continue building a creative hub that not only supports artistic development but also connects our writers with opportunities on a global stage.”
Her Track Record At UMPG
Since joining UMPG in 2024, Hamblion has signed Benny Morrell, Matthew Ifield, Esha Tewari, Rupert Bullard, Ownlife and Lach Bostock to the roster and established several joint venture partnerships. The new creative facilities expansion builds on this foundation.
Hamblion’s Background In Music Publishing
Hamblion brings nearly three decades of publishing experience to the role. Before joining UMPG, she spent more than a decade at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, where she was named Senior Vice President, A&R in 2015 and helped shape the company’s international A&R strategy.
At Sony/ATV, Hamblion secured deals with a wide range of Australian songwriters, including Sarah Aarons, Alex Hope, Jarryd James, Gretta Ray, Isabella Kearney-Nurse, Sam Sakr, Rory Adams, Ainslie Wills and Tina Arena. Her New Zealand signings there included Joel Little, Stan Walker, Alex Wildwood and Jawsh 685.
Her career in publishing began in 1995 at EMI Music Publishing in Sydney, where she spent more than 17 years working with artists and songwriters across Australia and New Zealand before moving to Sony/ATV.
What’s Next
UMPG has not provided a timeline for the creative facilities expansion. The focus will remain on discovering songwriters and producers in Australia and New Zealand and connecting them with international opportunities.
