Land Rover has revealed the Range Rover Sport Electric, the first fully battery-powered version of its performance-focused SUV, Car and Driver reported Sept. 30. The 2028 model joins the 2027 Range Rover Electric as the brand’s second EV and arrives less than a month after the bigger model’s debut, according to Carscoops.

Range Rover Sport Electric specs

The Sport borrows its electric hardware from the full-size Range Rover Electric: two motors making 542 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, fed by a battery of about 119 kWh, Car and Driver reported. Carscoops listed the pack at 118.5 kWh and said the SUV rides on an updated Modular Longitudinal Architecture Flex platform with an 800-volt system.

  • 0-60 mph: 4.3 seconds, Land Rover’s claim per Car and Driver (Carscoops lists 4.5 seconds to 62 mph with launch control)
  • Range: 378 miles on Europe’s WLTP cycle, per Car and Driver; Carscoops reported up to 373 miles
  • Charging: 10% to 80% in 22 minutes on DC fast chargers of up to 350 kW, or about 136 miles of WLTP range in 10 minutes
  • Off-road: wades up to 35.4 inches of water and climbs 45-degree slopes, according to Carscoops

The outlets’ figures for the Range Rover Sport Electric differ slightly on battery size and range, and Land Rover has not released EPA range estimates.

How the Sport Electric differs from the Range Rover Electric

On paper, the Sport is almost a twin of its bigger sibling. The difference is in the tuning. Land Rover says torque builds 50% faster than in the full-size EV, and the Sport adds all-wheel steering, active roll control, twin-valve dampers and a Dynamic mode for handling traction at the limit, Car and Driver reported. Its shorter wheelbase should help it feel more agile.

The body structure is 61% stiffer than the plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport’s, and the center of gravity sits 2.8 inches lower, Carscoops reported. To prove its grip, Land Rover took the SUV to the Carrara marble quarries in Italy, where it climbed slick, steep rock.

Visually, it is hard to tell apart from the gas model, apart from the missing tailpipes, a more aerodynamic grille and unique wheels, according to Carscoops. Land Rover also built a custom sound profile for drivers who miss engine noise.

“With Range Rover Sport Electric we’re taking that spirit of visceral engagement and desire into the electric age,” Range Rover Managing Director Martin Limpert said in the brand’s announcement, as quoted by Carscoops.

How it stacks up

The Range Rover Sport Electric is down on power compared with the 626-hp Range Rover SV, but Car and Driver expects it to keep pace with the V-8 Range Rover Sport in a straight line. It is part of a wider industry push into electrified SUVs, from Mazda’s expanding Changan-built EV lineup to Toyota’s luxury Century SUV.

Range Rover Sport Electric price and release date

U.K. orders are open at about $146,000 including tax, or roughly $117,000 before tax, which undercuts the Range Rover Electric by a little more than $20,000, Car and Driver calculated. U.S. pricing has not been announced.

The SUV will come in Dynamic HSE and Autobiography trims, and first deliveries begin in select markets in the first quarter of 2027, according to Carscoops. The U.S. is not in that first wave. Car and Driver expects American sales to start later in 2027 as a 2028 model.
