Halloween: The Game Let’s You Get Drunk, But at What Cost? New Trailer
The countdown begins until the release of Illfonic’s Halloween: The Game, which will be loosely based on the original 1978 John Carpenter film. I cannot express the excitement that the horror gaming community is feeling about such an iconic game being released later this year, in September. Illfonic has been pretty hush-hush about releasing any new information on the game, which I’m not mad about. It builds suspense and anticipation, and it’ll make the release so much more exciting.
However, it’s not like we don’t know anything about the game. From the few trailers that have been released and certain gameplay mechanics, fans have a pretty good idea of what they’ll be able to experience once the game is released. And last weekend, Illfonic gave fans a preview of the game, showcasing Halloween: The Game multiplayer. Here’s all that was shown in the multiplayer overview of Halloween: The Game, and why the absolute worst thing you can do is get drunk.

On March 26, Illfonic released a new trailer for Halloween: The Game, revealing a multiplayer mode for the game, where you and three other friends face off against the Shape, a very similar experience to Dead by Daylight. You can either play as a Haddonfield survivor, attempting to stop Michael Myers in his reign of terror, or become the boogeyman himself and kill all survivors before the night ends. This new trailer gave us a sneak peek at the brutality of the Shape, and I cannot tell you how excited I am.
When playing as Michael, he begins each match with a list of Special Targets that’ll give better rewards if they are killed before time expires. You’ll also have so many abilities in your arsenal to help you stalk and kill all survivors, including Killer Sense, Shape Jump, Shape Dash, and more. All of these will not only help you kill survivors, but scare the living daylights out of them before they go.
As survivors, your main goal would be to find other Haddonfield residents, convince them that the boogeyman is real, and help them escape and survive Halloween night. Each of the playable character survivors has their own special skills and abilities, making each character unique with their own personalities. Illfonic has implemented different gameplay systems to ensure that matches don’t play out the same every time, and this new trailer definitely hyped up the game’s release even more.
Don’t Get Intoxicated… Or Do?
One interesting mechanic that’s been added to the game is the fact that, as survivors, you can become intoxicated, which will cause some major effects to your character. Apparently, if you choose to drink, get high, or do any of the big no-nos in horror slashers in the game, it’ll distort your vision, making this a lot more difficult for you. According to Slash ‘N Cast, a horror content creator, who got the opportunity to try out the game last weekend, “Drinking beer in HALLOWEEN lowers your fear in-game, but it distorts your screen temporarily, making it difficult to move around.”
It’s a clever way that Illfonic implemented immersion, while elevating the horror in Halloween: The Game. Making it so you can ingest alcohol in the game is an amazing way to not only pay homage to the original film, but slasher horror in general. Everyone knows, especially in slasher horror films, that if you make dumb decisions, you’re already dead. It’s a classic slasher horror trope, and seeing it in a video game is a fun way to attract horror fans, especially fans of the film series.
