MSI 2026 Match Preview – Hanwha Life Esports Versus Team Secret Whales: The Most One-Sided First Round Match

The MSI Bracket Stage kicks off with Hanwha Life Esports taking on Team Secret Whales. The draw was not kind to the LCP first seed. Out of the four matchups in the first round, this should be the most one-sided. HLE is one of the three teams that many expect to win the tournament. Anything but a dominant victory for the LCK first seed will dampen those expectations.

Records Before MSI

After finishing in last place in the LCK Cup, HLE turned it around. They went 15-3 in the Regular Season to qualify as the first seed for the Road to MSI. They played against T1 in the first match. They won 3-1 to qualify for MSI. TSW went undefeated in the LCP Spring Split with a 7-0 Regular Season record. The playoffs were more of the same, with them winning every series.

Featured Matchup

Kanavi Versus Hizto

The Jungle matchup is a battle between two aggressive players. You can expect both of them to challenge each other in the early game. Kanavi’s playstyle leads HLE through most of their games. He is simultaneously the reason why they struggled in the LCK Cup and recovered in the Regular Season. Hizto must do his best to keep Kanavi quiet.

A Battle Against a Titan

TSW has dominated the LCP since the start of 2026. Unfortunately, the region has seen their overall performance drop. CTBC Flying Oyster’s roster changed, and PSG Talon disbanded. TSW faces the best team in the LCK. That has way more substance than TSW being the best LCP team. HLE had to beat T1 and Gen.G Esports to get the first seed. If TSW can get past HLE, that will be one of the biggest surprises of the tournament. Even a game win will be more than expected for the roster. They are up against one of the strongest teams in the tournament. HLE is also a team that will match TSW’s style, but better.

Bloody Games Expected

The LCP is one of the bloodier regions in the world. Having already seen Relove Deep Cross Gaming, they always want to fight. TSW is more of the same. The difference is that they have more macro to match their aggression. Usually, the LCK is more of a tempered region. However, HLE has thrown that out the window. They are the most aggressive team in the LCK and usually win through the early game. They are not a one-dimensional team and have excellent teamfight and mid-game macro. The MSI meta has also been early-game focused so far.

Prediction

Hanwha Life Esports 3-0 Team Secret Whales

HLE is the heavy favorite in this series. Playstyle-wise, HLE will match TSW. TSW thrive in the early game, and so do HLE. TSW is a weaker version of HLE. If they can find a way to get a lead in the early game, they are not out of the woods yet. HLE can always come back in the mid-and late game. A game win for TSW is beyond their expectation on paper. Against almost any other team in the tournament, TSW might have another chance.

The Start of the Double Elimination Bracket Stage

With the Bracket Stage starting this week, no team sees their tournament run end yet. The winner of the series will face the victor between G2 Esports and Top Esports. The loser drops to the Lower Bracket, where they will play one of the previously mentioned teams.
