MSI 2026 Match Preview – Bilibili Gaming Versus Hanwha Life Esports: BLG Chasing the Golden Road in an Exciting Rematch

No team has ever recorded the Golden Road in professional League of Legends. The Golden Road is when a team wins every domestic split and all the international events. Bilibili Gaming is on course for it, but they must defeat Hanwha Life Esports at MSI. BLG has beaten HLE once already at MSI, having won 3-1 in the Upper Bracket Final. Can HLE use the home ground to their advantage?

ON Versus Delight

In the first meeting between the two teams, ON got the better of Delight. His roams were more impactful, and he matched Delight’s plays. For HLE to stand a chance in the final, Delight must contend with ON. The only game that HLE won was when ON was not allowed to play proactively on the map. Delight’s recent Blitzcrank game should give him confidence heading into the rematch.

What Has HLE Learnt?

BLG were far and away the better team in every aspect in the previous meeting. They had better drafts, teamfighting, map movements, and overall mechanics. HLE started to claw back in the latter half of the series, but they were already too far behind. They need to acknowledge that BLG will move around the map with XUN and ON. The two always helped BLG garner leads. Their focus lay primarily on the solo laners, especially Knight. With Knight set up for success, he took control of games.

Giving Knight Orianna was also a big mistake from HLE. With more time, HLE should have a better plan heading into the final. But BLG has had a couple of days off. They might have prepared new strategies heading into the Grand Final. BLG has not revealed all their plans at MSI, having only needed to pull out all the stops against T1 in their opening series. HLE, on the other hand, had to play a game five against LYON. Perhaps BLG learnt more about HLE from that series.

Can Anyone Stop Knight?

Knight is in the form of his life in 2026. He has always been one of the best players in the world. However, this year he is making an argument for the best player, period. The number of high-kill games he has had pushes that narrative. There is one caveat. XUN and ON play heavily around mid lane. He gets most of the resources. But few can take over the way that he does. Many get the resources, but fail to dominate games.

Knight wants that Golden Road. He is the only player on the BLG roster who was in JD Gaming in 2023. That team was two best-of-five series away from completing the Golden Road. But they fell in the semi-finals to T1. Two players from that series are his opponents: Zeus and Gumayusi. Both will want to prevent Knight from winning and earning their first MSI title. HLE, when playing at their peak, is the best team to stop Knight. They have the solo laners to contend, but can they step up on the day?

Bilibili Gaming 3-2 Hanwha Life Esports

If HLE has stomped LYON in the Lower Bracket Final, we would consider a different result. However, HLE is not firing on all cylinders, and there is little time to recover. There is no guarantee that HLE has figured out the best way to approach playing against BLG. The most important aspect is improving their gameplay. If they make the same mistakes, they will lose again to the LPL first seed. Overall, we hope for a back-and-forth series with nail-biting games.

Qualifying for the World Championship

The MSI winner will almost guarantee their spot at the World Championship. All they will need to do after the final is qualify for their region’s playoffs. Neither team should miss out on the playoffs. HLE has a leg up on their opposition with the Spring records carrying over into the Summer split.
