World of Warcraft: Midnight – Abundance Event Struggles with Optimization and Keeping Fans Happy
World of Warcraft: Midnight is the newest World of Warcraft RPG game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. This game went into early access last November and made its official launch a couple of weeks ago. So far, it’s garnered some good reviews from critics, earning an 82 on Metacritic; however, many WoW players have reservations about the new World of Warcraft: Midnight.
World of Warcraft: Midnight released an event called Abundance, a repeatable, weekly 3-minute, 4-player activity held in four different zone caverns: Eversong, Zul’Aman, Harandar, and Voidstorm. Players can collect resources to earn rewards and 300 alloy abundance, with 20,000 total points required for the weekly quest. Sounds pretty interesting; however, WoW players have noticed some optimization issues with the event. Here’s what WoW players have been saying about the issues.
Abundance Event Issues

With the new event in World of Warcraft: Midnight, Abundance, which can be unlocked through “The Abundant Lands” questline with Chel the Chip in Amani’Zar Village, Zul’Aman, WoW players have noticed some bugs and issues present in the event. Parying up in large raid groups was pretty much the best way to tackle the Abundance event; however, it made the game extremely laggy, and when the event was released, players couldn’t complete the weekly Abundant Offerings quest.
Following reports of bugs on social media, Blizzard Entertainment quickly released hotfixes for World of Warcraft: Midnight, particularly with the Abundance event, and optimized gameplay for players. However, even with the patches, players remain dissatisfied with Abundance, especially after Blizzard Entertainment made changes. According to players who’ve been playing Abundance after the hot fixes, raid groups aren’t able to split their abundance anymore.
Now, what does this mean? Unfortunately, you can only do 8 Abundance runs per week, which means players who got in on early access are already ahead and implicitly encourages you to keep up with runs every week or fall behind. Some players have even claimed that they get even fewer orbs and rewards. Blizzard Entertainment is struggling to keep WoW players happy, and I’m curious to see how they’ll respond to players’ frustrations not just with the event, but with World of Warcraft: Midnight itself.
WoW Players Response
There were a bunch of subreddits and forums discussing the hot fixes, with many WoW players expressing their discontent with the way Blizzard Entertainment fixed the issues with the Abundance event. Here are some of the comments left on the Blizzard forum discussing the Abundance event, and the discontent WoW players are expressing over the optimization issues:
“When is blizzard going to fix abundance. The event is terrible. There is no catch up which means you are scuffed if you didnt get early access. It is a massive waste of time. How this made it out of the meeting room yet alone alpha and beta is insane to me.” says Coggyc.
“It was bearable as it was at launch but it’s fairly tedious after the nerf and I haven’t bothered with it much after doing it on all my alts in the initial week it was active.” wrote Gildondar.
“Here’s what the nerfs look to be, but are unconfirmed:
- Abundance orbs are now shared amongst players
- Abundance orbs despawn quicker
The first nerf would murder the raid meta, since single-player looting means raiders and group players don’t get any shared advantage. (In fact, it would only seem to favor leeches who steal orbs they didn’t create.)
The second nerf just feels like pointless mean-spirited stinginess.” says Gildondar.
“Crazy that with WoW and Blizzard slipping so hard that someone on their team was like “yeah, let’s nerf it by doing this.” wrote Ownenstein.
