Resident Evil Requiem Leon and Sherry Marriage Rumor Is a Lie
Now that Resident Evil Requiem has been out for a couple of weeks, longtime fans of the series can’t help themselves from speculating and theorizing about all the lore exposition and questions left unanswered at the end of the game. Something particular that caught the fancy of some fans is the relationship between Leon and Sherry Birkin, Leon’s liaison and right-hand in this installment of the game.
Fans have taken to the internet to theorize that Leon and Sherry are actually married. This theory stems from the reveal of a wedding ring that Leon had been wearing underneath his combat gloves throughout the entirety of the game, and some fans suspect that Sherry is the lucky girl. Here’s what fans have been saying online, and how this theory has been debunked.
Is Leon Married?

As you progress throughout your playthrough of Resident Evil Requiem, you’ll unlock concept art and other bonuses in the game. One concept art is of Leon. This artwork shows the concept art of his left hand, one infected with the T-virus, and the other normal, but with a wedding ring on it. The wedding ring was also shown towards the end of the game, as it was quickly shown on camera.
The reveal of the wedding ring sent fans into a tizzy, with countless rumors speculating who the lucky girl could be. As wearing a ring on the ring finger of your left hand typically suggests that you are married, this led many to speculate that Leon had married somewhere between the events of previous Resident Evil installments and Requiem.
Is It Sherry?
One theory that has been circulating online is whether Leon and Sherry are married. Like I’ve said, this theory stems from a point towards the end of Resident Evil Requiem, where it is revealed that Leon is wearing a wedding ring, something he apparently has been wearing under his combat gloves the entire time. The theory has definitely been hyped up by the fact that fans have dubbed this older Leon “hot uncle”, commenting on his good looks and buff physique even as a 50-year-old man.
The theory states that certain dialogue in the Japanese version of Resident Evil Requiem between Leon and Sherry pointed to an intimate relationship, akin to a husband and wife relationship. Overseas fans have pointed out that Sherry addresses Leon as あなた (anata), a sort of term of endearment that wives typically call their husbands. This is the basis of the theory, which is why it’s pretty much a groundless statement.
For non-native Japanese speakers, あなた might sound like an extremely affectionate term for Sherry to use with Leon, especially because we hear it all the time in Japanese dramas and anime. However, for people more adverse and familiar with the everyday Japanese language, her use of the word does not have any deeper meaning, especially given the context in which she uses it. Many fans of Resident Evil Requiem have debunked this theory and have even come up with their own candidates for who Leon’s wife could be.
Other Theories
Some people believe Leon married Ada Wong, his on again off again romatic interest throughout the Resident Evil franchise. Their relationship began in Resident Evil 2 and has since become a complicated partnership filled with romantic tension. This is definitely one of the more popular theories that fans would love to see come to fruition.
Another theory sees Claire Redfield as a potential wife for Leon; however, this theory is less popular than the Ada Wong theory. With the release of Resident Evil Requiem, fans have been left with many unanswered questions, al ot of which are set up for the next installment to the series, and only time will tell what theories can be confirmed and others debunked.
