The Epic Games Store has a trio of games lined up this week, including camping, ghosts, war, and a Sega remake. And Mac users have reason to check it out, too. If you like an FPS, this one is for you! As usual, these games are free to claim right now and will remain yours after the free period ends. So, don’t miss out on some great distractions for the weekend.

When you see the words “haunted island,” you don’t expect “cozy” to apply, but it does for Cozy Grove. You take on the role of a Spirit Scout camping on a haunted island. You spend your days in the forest, befriending and soothing ghosts, collecting spirit animals, crafting, decorating, fishing, and more.

The island’s hand-drawn environment changes as you help the ghosts and beautify the area. They promise over 40 hours in the campaign and quests, and that it was created to give you “months of playtime.” Cozy Grove is rated E for Everyone and is compatible with Windows. It is a single-player game with controller support. And there is a DLC called New Neighbors available on the Epic Games Store as well, which you can purchase for $6.99 if you want more content after giving the game a try.

WWI Isonzo Italian Front

The second free game from the Epic Games Store this week is the WWI first-person shooter, Isonzo. If you’ve ever wanted to take part in recreations of the battles of World War I, this looks like a game for you. The description says, “Take part in historical offensives from the Sixth Battle of the Isonzo to the Strafexpedition.”

The environments have been designed to recreate the landscapes, houses, trenches, uniforms, and even sound effects from the actual battles. While fighting your way through the battlefields, you’ll be able to place sandbags, wire, ammo crates, trench periscopes, sniper shields, and more. Flare guns can be used to mark targets.

You can choose one of six historically accurate combat roles (classes), then choose weapons, equipment, and perks. Being able to bandage yourself and teammates can make all the difference in battle when wounds can cause someone to bleed out. Basically, what they’re saying is this is realistic.

Isonzo is rated Mature 17+ and is available for both Windows and Mac through the Epic Games Store. This is the basic version that’s free, but Deluxe, First Wave, and Ultimate editions are also available for purchase.

On Mobile: Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap

Finally, for mobile devices, the Epic Games Store offers Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. This is a remake of the 1989 Sega Master System game Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap. The graphics and soundtrack have been remade, but you can choose to play in nostalgic 8-bit graphics instead, if that’s your style.

You can choose to play as Hu-Man or Hu-Girl, who have been cursed to be half-human and half-lizard. Fight your way through Monster Land to find the Salamander Cross to remove the curse. Expect things to get worse (or different) as they take on forms like Lizard-Man and Piranha-Man, among others. Each has its own set of abilities.

How to Claim Freebies From the Epic Games Store

Whether you want to play on your PC, Mac, Android, or iOS device (EU), you can find the download information on the Epic Games Store website. If you’re on a computer, you can download the  Epic Games Launcher to access and play your games. I know that’s not exactly shocking, and you probably figured that out already.

For the mobile games, you’ll need the QR code. Use the camera on your mobile device to scan the QR code, which will direct you to the download page. You will have to enable downloads from other sources. (Other than the native app store, that is.) This app isn’t available on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. After installing the app, launch it, sign in, and then scroll down to find the current free game.

And that’s what we have for you this week! Check back next week, and we’ll highlight the new game offerings from the Epic Games Store. We’re staying on top of the latest gaming news, so you don’t have to worry about any FOMO.

Happy gaming!
