LCK 2026 Season Week 1: Who Can Challenge Gen.G Esports?

LCK - League of Legends Champions Korea in LoL Esports

The story of the LCK Cup was the fall of T1 and Hanwha Life Esports. At the same time, Gen.G Esports emerged as the dominant force. FearX utilized the aforementioned team’s struggles and finished second in the LCK Cup. No one won a series against Gen.G in the LCK Cup. Who will become the first team to earn that honour? Will HLE steady the ship following their tenth-place finish?

Hanwha Life Esports Versus HANJIN BRION

Prediction: HLE 2-0

HLE will want to come out swinging in their opening series of the LCK. They have had time to work on their synergy in the offseason. They should be back to their best.

T1 Versus KT Rolster

Prediction: T1 2-1

A Telecom War on the first day of the season promises excitement. The last time these two teams faced off, it should have gone to a third game. Has KT figured out their starting support problem?

Dplus KIA Versus Nongshim Redforce

Prediction: DK 2-0

DK only lost to three teams in the LCK Cup: Gen.G, T1, and FearX. They showed signs of becoming a top-five contender, something NS was far away from.

KRX Versus DN SOOPers

Prediction: DNS 2-1

DNS and the renamed KRX had a good battle in the Lower Bracket of the playoffs. It should be another tightly contested affair, with either team emerging victorious.

Gen.G Esports Versus KT Rolster

Prediction: Gen.G 2-0

KT was Gen.G’s boegy team last year. They defeated them twice in a best-of-five series. It is unlikely they will do the same in this series. Gen.G will be fired up, following their disappointing exit from First Stand.

FearX Versus HANJIN BRION

Prediction: FearX 2-0

BFX is also coming off a disappointing result at First Stand. They have a relatively easy game to start, against BRO. It is vital that BFX hit the ground running to restore their confidence.

T1 Versus Hanwha Life Esports

Prediction: T1 2-1

In their LCK Cup meeting, T1 emerged victorious 2-1. After that series, each team went on different trajectories. HLE bowed out of the competition in last place. Everyone assumed T1 and Gen.G would face off in the Grand Final. However, they lost to BFX and DK consecutively in the playoffs. This series could go either way.

KRX Versus Dplus KIA

Prediction: DK 2-1

KRX and DK played against each other multiple times in the LCK Cup. On each occasion, DK emerged victorious. The result should be similar in this series.

Nongshim Redforce Versus DN SOOPers

Prediction: DNS 2-1

The last time that these two teams met, DNS won 2-1. At the time, that came as a surprise to many. However, since then, DNS has proved that they are a possible top-five contender. The result of this series could determine the trajectory of both teams.

Gen.G Esports Versus FearX

Prediction: Gen.G 2-0

The two teams battled each other three times in the LCK Cup. Two of those series were the Upper Bracket Final and Grand Final. Gen.G won all of them, only dropping a single game. They are the odds-on favorites for this series.

A Long Road Ahead

The LCK regular season is a long one. Teams will play 18 series across nine weeks. The results of the first week could be important, but are not the be-all and end-all for the teams. A top-six finish at the end of the nine weeks will qualify teams for the Road to MSI. There, they will have a chance to book their ticket to the Mid-Season Invitational. Upon returning from MSI, the ten teams will split into two groups. The top-five teams are in the Legend Group, and the rest are in the Rise Group.
