First Stand 2026 Match Preview: A Battle of the Americas

The First Stand Logo, the first international event of the year

In 2025, North and South America had to compete against each other. They battled for spots at First Stand and the World Championship. In 2026, the LCS and CBLOL returned. We have already seen the North versus South in the Americas Cup. FURIA defeated both Cloud9 and Team Sentinels. The North has a chance to respond, with Lyon taking on Loud at First Stand. Which team will make their region proud?

Recent Match History and Head-to-Head

Despite each team’s success domestically (Lyon was Rainbow7), the teams have not met before in international competitions. Both teams won four consecutive series in their respective playoffs. Lyon’s run was through the Lower Bracket, while Loud progressed through the Upper Bracket.

Featured Matchup

Dhokla Versus Xyno

Xyno is the most impressive player to emerge from the first CBLOL split. He was the best top laner, and he brings hope for the CBLOL. He has his first test in the form of Dhokla. Dhokla has not been the best top laner in recent years, but he has always impressed. If Xyno can not topple Dhokla, he will struggle to compete with the rest of the top laners at First Stand.

Inspired Led Lyon

Inspired is the heartbeat beyond Lyon. Not only is he the best-performing player on the roster, but his impact in comms is also paramount. There were numerous occasions during comms listen-ins where he was leading the communications.

As a result, shutting him down is the number one priority. If he can not breathe in teamfights, Lyon will have a difficult time setting up in teamfights. That is easier said than done. He finds ways to build leads or be in strong enough positions to help his team. Lyon’s willingness to give up objectives will give Loud fewer chances to shut Inspired down. However, if they manage to shut him down in the few situations, they will win the series.

North Versus South

In 2025, the North had the better of the South. Team Liquid went to First Stand, and FlyQuest won the LTA Championship. So far in 2026, the South has risen. An LCS team won one series against the CBLOL competition. Cloud9 defeated Red Canids 3-2. For the rest of the matches, FURIA dominated the LCS competition. They went undefeated in the tournament. Entering the First Stand, Lyon must win for the North American hope. If they lose to Loud, the faith in LCS could drop drastically. Loud will have home-ground advantage, and that could boost them to victory.

Prediction

LYON as the champions of the LCS to qualify for First Stand

Lyon 3-1 Loud

Despite the home-ground advantage, Lyon is the favorite. The only role that might be in question is Support. Isles is a middle-of-the-road support, playing against the seasoned Redbert. The topside for Lyon is better. Xyno will need to beat Dhokla to give themselves a chance in the series. If we see the Saint from the Swiss Stage, there might be room for Loud to exploit his mistakes. Insipred has contended with the best junglers in the world. Youngjae is no slouch, but he has played in the LCK. He was a mid-table LCK jungler at best. Berserker is not the same player he was a couple of years ago; however, he should have a leg up on Bull.

First Stand Impact

The Group Stage of First Stand has teams participate in a GSL-style group. That means each group is a mini double-elimination bracket. The winners of tomorrow’s series will play each other in a qualification match. The losers will fight for their lives in the elimination match. Ultimately, teams need two wins to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
