First Stand 2026 Match Preview: JDG Must Defeat a Giant
JD Gaming returns to the international stage for the first time since 2023. They have a difficult task, facing Gen.G Esports in their first match of First Stand. The LCK first seed has yet to lose a series this year, dropping only two games in total. They have been the most dominant team in their domestic league. Can JDG achieve what no other team has managed to do in 2026?
Recent Match History and Head-to-Head
Despite both teams’ 2023 successes, Gen.G and JDG did not play against each other. They have never met at an international event. Gen.G enters the tournament having won eight consecutive series. JDG’s form is less impressive, having won three of the five playoff series they played. Both losses were against Bilibili Gaming.
Featured Matchup

Canyon Versus JunJia
In 2025, JunJia was one of two junglers outside the LPL and LCK to dominate at international events. He was pivotal in CTBC Flying Oyster’s success, both domestically and internationally. He will have to repeat his strong performance against one of the best junglers, Canyon. Canyon at his best is unplayable and has been at the top of the jungle list since he won the World Championship in 2020. JunJia will need to pull out all the stops to prevent Canyon from having another dominant performance.
Gen.G’s Unbeaten Streak
During the LCK Cup, Gen.G lost a mere two games. Dplus KIA and FearX won one game in the Upper Bracket. In the Grand Final, Gen.G dominated FearX, winning 3-0. At times, it seems like Gen.G barely gets out of first gear and still manages to win series comfortably. Every player on their roster was the best in their position during the LCK Cup. They enter this series and the tournament as the favorites. Many even expect Gen.G to continue their series winstreak throughout First Stand. JDG has a tall mountain to climb in this series, but as Ole Gunnar Solskjær once said: “Mountains are there to be climbed.”
JDG’s Return to Internationals

The last time JDG played in an international event, they lost 3-1 to T1 in the World Championship Semi-Final. That loss put an end to the Golden Road. JDG is the last LPL team to win an international event. The LPL is desperate for one of its teams to rise to the occasion. The series against Gen.G provides an opportunity to prove that LPL is here to compete. If they manage to beat Gen.G, it will send shockwaves in the LoL Esports community. Everyone favors Gen.G to win it all. As the second seed, JDG should stand no chance. JunJia and HongQ have performed miracles before, but this might be a step too far.
Prediction
Gen.G Esports 3-1 JD Gaming
Despite Gen.G’s dominance, they have not been perfect. Even in series where they won without dropping a map, mistakes appeared. JDG will need to be ready to punish any mistakes that Gen.G makes. There will not be many, so taking advantage is pivotal. JDG should be able to turn one of the games into a win, but a series victory seems out of the question. However, Gen.G has tended to start slow in international competitions. Tomorrow might be the best time for a team to capitalize on that aspect.
First Stand Impact
The Group Stage of First Stand has teams participate in a GSL-style group. That means each group is a mini double-elimination bracket. The winners of tomorrow’s series will play each other in a qualification match. The losers will fight for their lives in the elimination match. Ultimately, teams need two wins to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
