‘Reacher’ season 6 locked in early, a huge win for Ritchson

Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher in a scene from the Prime Video series, now renewed for Reacher season 6

Prime Video isn’t waiting around to find out if “Reacher” still has an audience. The streamer renewed the hit action drama for “Reacher” season 6 on Monday, Sept. 28, locking in another chapter before cameras have even stopped rolling on season 5.

The renewal comes as season 5 continues production in Toronto, TVLine reported. That’s the kind of early vote of confidence networks and streamers reserve for shows that are pulling serious weight, and “Reacher” has clearly earned it.

A franchise built on strong numbers

Season 4 wrapped up its run on Sept. 16, capping an eight-episode season that premiered Aug. 12. That’s a quick turnaround from start to finish, and it kept the momentum going for star Alan Ritchson, who plays the towering ex-military drifter Jack Reacher.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, credited author Lee Child and showrunner Nick Santora in his statement and singled out the show’s star. “Alan Ritchson is Jack Reacher — he’s delivered a performance that has captivated audiences around the world,” Friedlander said.

Season 4 adapted Lee Child’s novel “Gone Tomorrow,” continuing the show’s pattern of pulling directly from the bestselling book series. Season 5 will follow suit, adapting “Make Me,” the 20th novel in Child’s Reacher catalog. That’s a deep well of source material, and it’s part of why the show has been able to keep churning out fresh seasons without running out of story to tell.

The “Reacher” universe is expanding

“Reacher” isn’t just growing longer — it’s growing wider. The spinoff series “Neagley” dropped its entire first season, all eight episodes, on Sept. 16, the same day the “Reacher” season 4 finale streamed. Maria Sten stars in the spinoff, giving fans a new corner of the Reacher world to dig into.

Launching a spinoff is a signal in itself. Streamers don’t usually greenlight offshoots unless the flagship show has proven it can support a bigger universe. Pairing the “Neagley” full-season drop with the “Reacher” finale suggests Amazon MGM Studios may have wanted viewers moving from one show straight into the next, keeping engagement high across the whole franchise.

Behind the scenes, Santora continues steering the adaptation process, translating Child’s novels for the screen with Paramount Television Studios as a production partner. That partnership has stayed consistent across seasons, giving the show a stable creative pipeline even as it expands into spinoff territory.

What’s still unknown about “Reacher” season 6

Plenty of details haven’t been nailed down yet. There’s no word on whether season 5’s supporting cast will carry over or whether new characters will join the roster. A premiere timeline for “Reacher” season 6 also hasn’t been announced, and with season 5 still in production, it’s likely to be a while.

For now, the focus stays on Toronto, where season 5 production continues. With “Make Me” providing the source material, fans of the books already have a sense of where Reacher’s next case might take him — even if the show has a habit of putting its own spin on things once cameras start rolling.

The “Reacher” season 6 renewal locks in one more thing: Ritchson isn’t going anywhere. Whatever comes next for Reacher, it’s coming with him at the center.
