Amy Madigan Triumphs Over Nominees
“Weapons” was nominated for one award tonight, and Madigan took home the gold. The film, directed and written by Zach Cregger, won in a category filled with heavily nominated movies like “Sinners” Wunmi Mosaku, Teyana Taylor for “One Battle After Another,” and two stars from the movie “Sentimental Value,” Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter
If it feels like deja vu, Madigan took home the same award at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards.
Another Big Win for Madigan
When Amy Madigan was nominated for the 2026 Oscars in January, she broke the record for the longest time gap between Oscar nominations by an actor. Madigan’s first nomination was in
1985 for her acting in “Twice in a Lifetime.”
During her acceptance speech, Madigan tooted her own horn about her Oscar nomination record. The “Uncle Buck” actor said, “The press has repeatedly asked her what’s different about this nomination from her first several decades ago.” And her response is classic, “What’s different is I have this little gold guy,” she added.
Madigan’s acting career started to take off in the early 80s, and she has maintained consistent work for over 40 years. Fans who are unfamiliar with the Oscar-winning actor’s earlier work, like the movie “Field of Dreams” and “Nowhere to Hide,” know Madigan from her role as Dr. Katharine Wyatt on “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“Weapons” Celebrates Award Season
Award season is coming to an end soon, and the movie “Weapons” and Amy Madigan had a great run. “Weapons” won an Oscar Award, Critics’ Choice Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award, to name a few.
The film is a horror mystery released in 2025. The film’s story is told from different actors’ perspectives, including what led up to the disappearance of the children in town. Madigan plays the long-lost aunt Gladys, a witch who begins causing chaos in town to recover her health and stop anyone in her way, including her own family.
