Ryan Gosling’s Huge Revelation About Potential Role As Ghost Rider In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
“Project Hail Mary” star Ryan Gosling has not put any ice on flaming rumors that he is being eyed to play Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the past, the actor has expressed interest in playing the antihero in the MCU. On the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, his latest comments on possibly playing Ghost Rider seemed to add a bit of fuel to the fiery rumors.
Ryan Gosling Confirms Talks With Marvel
The actor first expressed interest in playing the leather-clad, skull-headed motorcyclist in 2022. At the time, speculation was mounting that he might be tapped to play Nova, another cosmic Marvel hero. Gosling swiftly shut down the Nova rumors but pivoted the conversation, revealing that Johnny Blaze was the one comic book character he truly wanted to bring to life.
Recently, he seemed to keep hopes alive of playing the character. During an appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused Podcast,” host Josh Horowitz asked Gosling if he had met with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about the role. He did not go into detail, but he said there have been some discussions. From his universally praised, Oscar-nominated turn as Ken in “Barbie” to his celebrated stunt-action work in “The Fall Guy,” he has proven he can balance deep emotional resonance with blockbuster spectacle.
Gosling said on the podcast in the 34:57-35:01 mark in the video, “Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.” Speaking on the podcast himself a while ago, Feige praised Gosling. In the statement obtained by Cinema Express, Feige said, “Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider … Gosling’s unbelievable. Ryan is amazing… I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU. He’s dressed up as Ken on Venice Beach and gets more press than giant movies coming out that weekend. It’s amazing.”

Ghost Rider Past Action Appearances
Nicolas Cage played the character in 2007’s “Ghost Rider.” He played Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman who ended up selling his soul and hunting down demons who had escaped from hell. Cage returned to reprise the role in 2011’s “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” In the MCU, a different version of the character appeared in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” portrayed by Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes.
A standalone Hulu series for Luna’s Ghost Rider was ultimately shelved, but the hunger for the “Spirit of Vengeance” has never waned among the dedicated fanbase. Ghost Rider represents a darker, more consequence-heavy corner of the Marvel universe. Bringing an actor of Gosling’s caliber into this specific fold wouldn’t just be a casting coup; it would be a statement of intent. It tells the audience that Marvel is ready to explore the tragic, deeply human elements of a man cursed to exact vengeance.
For now, audiences and comic book loyalists must wait in eager anticipation. The entertainment industry is notoriously unpredictable, and “complicated situations” can either resolve into historic cinematic moments or quietly fade away. Yet, as long as Ryan Gosling continues to hold onto that hope, fans around the world will gladly hold onto it with him.
Whether those “complicated” discussions ultimately result in a signed contract remains to be seen. But for now, fans and the actor share a mutual, burning hope that Johnny Blaze will ride again. Marvel Studios is currently in a transitional phase. Following the massive success of the Infinity Saga, the studio is actively looking to anchor its next phase with established, charismatic leading men.
