‘VisionQuest’ Gets Musical: Composer Mick Giacchino Becomes Newest Talent To Join Upcoming Marvel Show

Starring Paul Bettany as Vision, Marvel’s “VisionQuest” just added award-winning composer Mick Giacchino to its already impressive roster of talent.

Showrunner Terry Matalas will be taking the reins for “VisionQuest,” following his successful run as showrunner of “Star Trek: Picard’s” fantastic final season. Matalas also helmed the excellent time-travel drama, “12 Monkeys,” which bodes well for his upcoming take on Marvel.

“VisionQuest” focuses on the titular Marvel android hero and serves as a sequel to 2021’s “Wandavision” and 2024’s “Agatha All Along.” The series will also star James Spader, who returns as Ultron after his villainous turn in 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Marvel’s “VisionQuest” Adds Composer Mick Giacchino

According to The Hollywood Reporter, composer Mick Giacchino has been tapped to add his musical talents to Disney+’s and Marvel’s upcoming show, “VisionQuest.”

Giacchino has worked on superhero projects before, winning an Emmy for his work on DC and HBO’s “The Penguin.” Giacchino has also worked on Disney and Lucasfilm’s “The Skeleton Crew,” as well as Disney’s “The Muppets Mayhem” and “Zootopia+.”

Giacchino’s father, Michael Giacchino, has been a longtime composer for Disney and Marvel, composing music for films such as “Up,” “Zootopia,” “Doctor Strange,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” and far too many others to list here.

Mick Giacchino will appear alongside many other composers on May 16th at Poland’s Kraków FMF International TV Series Gala, where he will preview the upcoming soundtrack for “VisionQuest.”

What is Marvel’s “VisionQuest” About?

A series centered on Paul Bettany’s Vision has been in the works for a while, but few details have been revealed about the actual plot of the series. Although Vision was killed in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” he was later resurrected and appeared as an all-white Vision in “WandaVision.”

After having his memories restored, Vision must connect to those memories and find himself again. In its eight episodes, “VisionQuest” will likely follow this journey and the various complications Vision encounters along the way.

As one of many upcoming Marvel projects, “VisionQuest” is set to drop in 2026, but no official release date has yet been revealed. It remains to be seen how “VisionQuest” will connect to what is arguably Marvel’s biggest upcoming release, “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.

Who Else Will Appear In Marvel’s “VisionQuest”?

In addition to Paul Bettany and James Spader, the cast will feature Matalas regular Todd Stashwick as a bounty hunter who is on the hunt for Vision. Ruaridh Mollica will portray Tommy Maximoff, also known as Speed, the son of Vision and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and the twin brother of Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke), who appeared in “Agatha All Along.”

In addition, T’Nia Miller will portray a robot named Jocasta, Emily Hampshire will play an AI known as E.D.I.T.H., and Mary McDonnell will appear in an undisclosed role. Orla Brady, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and James D’Arcy will all play various AIs and robots that were created by Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark.

In a surprising twist, Faran Tahir will return as Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings cell that kidnapped Tony Stark in 2008’s “Iron Man.” Raza appeared to be killed in that film, so it remains to be seen how his appearance will play out in “VisionQuest.” Lauren Morais and Diane Morgan will also appear.

Anticipation for Marvel’s “VisionQuest” remains high, and the addition of a high-profile composer like Mick Giacchino only adds to the hype. I, for one, am incredibly excited for “VisionQuest,” and I can’t wait to see how all of these actors and other talented players come together. “VisionQuest” will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2026.
