First Stand 2026 Gen.G Esports Preview: All Expectations Fall On The LCK Giants
The clear favorites for First Stand are Gen.G Esports. They have been the most dominant team in the world so far. In the most competitive league, they went undefeated in the LCK Cup. Gen.G only lost two games throughout the tournament. Having missed out on First Stand last year, they are itching to win the title. Will Gen.G prove everyone correct and dominate the tournament in Brazil?
Gen.G Esports First Stand Roster

- Kim “Kiin” Ki-in – Korean Top Laner
- Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu – Korean Jungler
- Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon – Korean Mid Laner
- Park “Ruler” Jaek-hyuk – Korean Bot Laner
- Joo “Duro” Min-kyu – Korean Support
Gen.G is one of a few teams with the same roster from 2025. Given their success last year, it makes sense for them to keep the roster. Gen.G won the Mid-season Invitational, Esports World Cup, and the LCK Season last year. They only lost to Hanwha Life Esports, T1, HANJIN BRION, and KT Rolster last year in best-of-three series or higher.
The Best In the World
For most of recent times, Gen.G has been the best in the world. Gen.G narrowly missed out on First Stand last year. At the time, they lost to Hanwha Life Esports 3-2. Part of the reason for their struggles in the LCK Cup 2025 was Duro assimilating into the roster. Once he got comfortable, Gen.G surged. They won every series up until after MSI. T1 managed to beat Gen.G 2-1. After that, they lost two best-of-five series to KT Rolster, once in the LCK playoffs and once at the World Championship.
Gen.G has continued their domestic dominance in 2026. Gen.G went perfect in the Group Battle, not losing a game in five series. Gen.G dropped one game to Dplus KIA and FearX each, but coasted through the playoffs. They dominated FearX in the grand final, ascerting their control over the LCK. Gen.G might face more challenges at First Stand than they did in the LCK Cup.
Gen.G’s Dominant Top Side

Very few can contend with Gen.G’s topside at their best. Kiin, Canyon, and Chovy all had astronomical performances during the LCK Cup. Chovy delivered a dominant display on Aurora during their series against Dplus KIA. Kiin managed to build leads in isolation that helped propel Gen.G to victory. Canyon stole two objectives in one game, using Jarvan IV’s Demacian Standard. These are only a fraction of what the players have done this year and in previous years.
If they are firing on all cylinders, they might storm their way to a First Stand title victory. The most terrifying aspect is that Gen.G’s botlane is no slouch either. Ruler and Duro have been one of the best botlanes. They were often not required in the LCK Cup because of Gen.G’s dominant topside. However, Gen.G might need them in First Stand, and they might spell doom for their opponents.
Prediction
Anything short of a First Stand victory is a failure for Gen.G. They are the favorites for the tournament, and everyone expects them to dominate the competition. Following their LCK Cup campaign, many believe that they are the best team in the world. Bilbili Gaming is likely the only team that can contend with the LCK giants.
Gen.G’s Path to Dominance
Gen.G will play their first series against JD Gaming. A victory in that series will see them play against the winner of LYON and LOUD. Losing to JD Gaming will put them in an elimination match against the aforementioned teams. Two wins in the group will earn qualification to the Knockout Stage. Two losses will eliminate them from the competition. Should they qualify, they will face one of the teams from Group A. The team they play will depend on the position in the group.
